| [Speed] Comcast Slow Upload speed/modem issues
Lately my internet has been crashing temporarily or going slow. Currently I have an RCA DCM305 »www.simplehelp.net/images/cable_···m225.gif and a Linksys BEFSR41 router »www.webuildsolutions.com/images/···sr41.jpg .
Also Comcast claims I should be getting power-boost for my area, but i never seem to be getting it, my speeds remain less than 8mbps. As for my upload speed, it is really terrible. I should be getting 756kb/sec or something close, but the max i get is 340kb/sec. I was wondering if it was my modem or router's fault for my slow upload speed/temporary crashes. I was thinking about switching modems to see if that would fix the problem. Also, I'd like to know what modems Comcast gives that are any good or not ( I may consider buying a modem myself if Comcast gives me a bad modem ) |

| I would swap out that old RCA modem! Comcast issues different modems in different areas,so i can't tell what model they hand out in your area. Anything would be better then what you have now. |

a Linksys BEFSR41 router What hardware version is your BEFSR41 ?
I believe that the hardware "version 2" routers only have a 10Mbps WAN port which would be a constraining factor for Powerboost. Have you ever tried taking the router out of the equation ? |

@comcast.net | reply to RealOST Yeah...my router is a version 2. That must be why. Is there any solution to fix it? |

Time for an upgrade. |

| What speeds do you get when you disconnect the router and connect directly to your modem?
That should be a quick and easy test to see if that's at fault.
As for what you can do if it is...I guess first check and see if there's any firmware upgrades for it. If it is an issue though with it only having a 10Mb WAN port..then you're out of luck and will have to get a new one.
I had to ditch my older Netgear router for the same issue when powerboost came along.
Here's a list that should prove helpful in determining router performance in case you do need to buy a new one. »www.smallnetbuilder.com/componen···mid,189/
It's probably a smart idea to invest in one thats towards the top of the line because if docsis 3.0 comes out in the next year or two..you might run into this same thing all over again. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

@comcast.net | reply to RealOST So what would be a good router to get? |

@comcast.net
| reply to RealOST Because I really can't tell which one is a good one from all these choices. I don't use wireless now but I can't seem to tell which from which (frequency, maximum speeds, etc) and their extra features. I just want a router that can handle the speeds comcast puts out. |
