Re: Discover card - any good? said by grobinette:Discover took the cheap (and ineffective) approach that they would just issue everyone a new card with the same account number and only change the expiration date. Really, that surprises me. A couple of years ago, I lost my discover card in Staple's parking lot. I got a call from someone from Discover saying that someone found my card and they will send me a new one. They disable my web access to my old discover account, and gave me a new card and account number. |

Count ZeroMD2BePremium join:2007-01-18 Warner Robins, GA | reply to Hayward I've had two Visa cards that both blocked out my account after I hadn't used them in a long time and went to purchase a routine tank of gas. It was kind of funny actually. They both let the gas transaction go through before they blocked me -- I only figured it out later. The first card issuer called me while I was out walking my dog and put me through an automated fraud detection system, the second declined an iTunes purchase and when I called them they told me I hadn't used the card in so long they had blocked it after the tank of gas. |

Boomer86never say roadkillPremium join:2002-10-18 Walden, NY | reply to slyphoxj I consolidated about a year ago and got rid of my Discover card... I just didn't need it anymore, and there are still a couple places I shop that don't accept it.
Of all the Novus Discover accounts, the only one that ever appealed to me was the Wal-Mart Discover Card, underwritten by GE Money Bank. That was the ONLY Discover card I could find that didn't have the stupid "two cycle average daily balance" method to calculate finance charges. Also, they had a decent cash back program and the option to take a $20 cash advance with your Wal-Mart purchase with no added fees.
FWIW I have an American Express Blue Cash card, which I use everywhere it's accepted; I keep a classic Mastercard issued by my local Credit Union for those places that don't accept AmEx. Remember, if they take plastic for payment EVERY USA merchant accepts Mastercard. -- Don't pay ME back, pay it forward. |

| reply to slyphoxj Well, I went for the Citi Dividend Platinum Select card. I've been using it for about a week now. So far I've gotten 1% cash back (Dividend Dollars) on all the purchases I've made. I made a purchase at a grocery store and bought gas with it, but still only got 1% on those (I should be getting 5% for the next 6 months, 2% thereafter).
I just called their customer service and the CSR said that there would be an investigation as to why I'm not getting the 5% and that I'd get a letter in the mail within 7-10 days.
I just wish they had American CS . |

Thats when I get a b it upset is with a merchant that takes AMEX but not Discover.
Just VISA/MC fime but you take AMEX they should take Discover, maybe Discover charges merchants more than V/MC but I doubt as much as AMEX. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

MaccawolfPremium join:2001-02-20 Hillsdale, NJ kudos:6 | reply to slyphoxj I don't know about everyone else's Discover, but not only does mine give me 5% at Gas stations, grocery stores and Drug stores , (those three comprise MOST of my money spending these days), but THey also give a couple bucks extra when redeeming for gift cards. IE, redeem $40 for CVS, and get $45. Don't really shop MOST of the places that give $50 for 25, but if you CAN take advantage of it, IT's GREAT! -- the light at the end of the tunnel is just an oncoming train. |
