I want Verizon and others to stop building FIOS so we don't have to keep subsidizing that waste. new wireless or copper broadband using existing infrastructure would be a much better investment. |

I want ignorant people to expand their ignorance to public forums, thus purging themselves from public commentary. |

| when are people going to see FIOS for it's true reasons.
FIOS is Verizon's attempt at REMOVING copper and Monopolizing all signal services into your house.
Verizon learned from the CableTV Industry that the only way they can keep from sharing their network with other providers, is to build a redundant one.
Had DSL technology been around when CableTV was expanding, they would have invested in delivering Video over copper pairs, not put in another wire.
FIOS is also a way to collect less money in taxes on phone service, and pocket it for themselves.
A load balanced pair of DSL circuits can do anything FIOS can do right now, without having to dig a trench.
FIOS is the biggest Boondoggle which will be eclipsed by new wireless/copper technology long before it's done. |

| Although it's a side benefit if you listen to the conference calls you would realize that FIOS was a strategic decision by management because they realized that the 24guage wire going into your house will NEVER be able to carry 1/100th the data that a single glass cable can carry. Electrical charge with all it's inherent weaknesses (EM interferance, water damage, etc...) can never compare to light of nearly unlimited wavelengths transmitted down a glass cable. Verizon was the only provider to realize that with HDTV, the Internet and cellular phones the conventional copper based system is a thing of the past. This is especially true given the astronomical prices copper is moving towards as China and India fully industrialize.
Their decision can easily be compared against Comcast. Comcast early on made the decision to do fiber to the node, it cost them over 3billion in upgrades and they can't support the 80 HDTV channels that are currently available without going to SDV and are talking about another 3 billion in upgrades just to support HDTV, let alone increased bandwidth consumption by Internet users. |

| reply to Packeteers Uh huh.. I don't use any of the wire's attached to my house from Verizon. In fact, I doubt the internal phone wire in my house even works. Voip and cell service are more than enough in the NorthEast. If you're truly worried about disaster communication, then get yourself a shortwave radio.
Telco's generally want to collect more money in taxes, not less.
Load balanced DSL circuits? Only if you live a few thousand feet from the CO. Since there isn't a CO in my town, the best they can offer us is 768k. |

| reply to Packeteers Fiber is the future. and how is FiOS bad? sure it is a closed network but look at areas that have FiOS the cable companies are bumping up speeds to compete. U-Verse isnt exactly making comcast worry while FiOS has them changing their speed packages in verizon areas. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |
