Re: More fun with the DVR/program guide

My experience is also with the DirecTivo, and that is what I recall from my discussions on Tivo Community. I would LOVE to have the Tivo interface back again, but I'd settle for a mainstream guide provider instead of what we've got.
Edit: After some further reading, it appears that each series has a unique ID and each program within the series has a unique ID. This still doesn't eliminate all errors. Tivos miss recordings too if the guide info doesn't contain the proper ID numbers (and it actually happens occasionally!)

I'll do some research, but I don't believe the Tivo uses the program title to identify the program.
I have no proof to back this up, but I believe you're correct. DirecTV's DVR was like that too. I believe they key off of some unique series/show identifier. DirecTV's R15 had a mother of a limitation - you could only set up a Series Link (aka Season Pass... Series) once for a specific series. If it was on two different channels - too bad. But if there was another series with the exact same title, you could set that up as a separate series. That tells me that it's not using the series name as the (only) key.

My point is, the Tivo interface cannot correct faulty guide information. A Verizon DVR running the Tivo interface (which is what CurGeorge8 mentioned and I replied to) would have the same problems if furnished the same faulty guide info that the current DVR's receive.
Yes and no. Some guides (and I think that Tivo is one of them) are designed for this type of situation and ignore certain words (like "The"). Thus they treat "The Biggest Loser" and "Biggest Loser" as the same show. I agree that if the data is completely wrong (lists the wrong show, etc.) there is nothing that can be done (except to correct the data at the source) but an experienced company (like Tivo) can certainly do some simple things to catch some of the common errors.

Not going to happen. How much money, how many man-hours have they sunk into IMG 2.0 development, deployment and support so far?

Might want to try posting in the Direct forum about the improper titles, that's what some people have been doing. Not much else you can do other than 1) get a TiVO, 2) hope that they change guide providers in a few months, 3) drop the service.

Why don't you just NOT get FIOS TV and save yourself a lot of potential heartache and pain?

Yeah but how often does that happen? With FYI it's a weekly thing.

This is why they need a DVR with the Tivo inerface.

Reason's why I am not looking forward to my FIOS TV install.

If it is like this in the my first 30 days, I will cancel it and just stick with the internet and phone only.

Doesn't make any sense. And yes I know Verizon doesn't provide the guide data but they are the ones forcing it on us.

1. "Biggest Loser" was changed to "The Biggest Loser." Missed several recordings.
2. On ESPNHD every show is listed as "Sports Center" as of 4:45PM 24 Oct 07. The series pass has never worked for that channel, but I could at least record individual shows. No more.

What is the matter with Verizon that they cannot meet the most basic requirements of a DVR?
