@insightbb.com

www33.not-found-entry.org

I have had InsightBB for around 7 years or so now (since it came out in this area) and just noticed recenlty that if I type in a invalid web address I get redirected to:

www33.not-found-entry.org

I'm in the Flornece, KY area and this has just started. I think it's really lame that they are redirecting my traffic espically so they can put ads at the bottom when I already pay for there service.

Just venting....

You need to run Spybot S&D as your system has been infected by spyware of some sort.

I don't see it because I'm using Open DNS. I think it should be known that Insight is doing this because I think people will get the idea that they've been infected with malware.

I contacted Insight to be told that this action has been taken globally to all of their customers and there is no way to permanently opt out. From another site I learned you can opt out by clicking the tiny "about' at the bottom of the page but it is only good until you reset your cookies. I filed complaints with the FTC , Kentucky Attorney General, and the Kentucky Bureau if Investigations as a report against the hijacking of my computer.

If more of us file complaints maybe we can stop these actions step on our privacy (tracking all you surfing, etc.)

This is another place where illegal activity can only continue if good people do nothing.

I do not like this one bit and am now seeing it in Northern Kentucky also. If I'm paying them for service I really find it obtuse that they would even presume that I would want this.

I have switched over to using the Level3 DNS servers in Atlanta. (4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2)

This www33 issue has BIG implications for me. I work in a virtual office environment where I access my corporate resources via a VPN connection. Once I connect inside the firewall, I normally have access to all of our internal web servers. The problem is that most of our internal web sites have unique prefixes other than the standard "www". Because of the sudden and unannounced change by Insight, whenever I try to access one of these sites, the DNS server does not recognize the "non-www" prefix, and sends me to the the famous error message page.

The only work around I've found is to manually input a DNS server. I found another site where the referenced a public DNS server with the address of 199.166.24.253 which does seem to work. I'm just not sure yet what the long-term implications are from doing this.

If it pays THEM money they will assume that YOU don't care.

There really is an overwhelming number of people that don't and won't care. There will even be a certain number that will appreciate it.

Me? I cut out my ISP wherever I can. I use Gmail, not their mail. I use the Level 3 DNS servers, not their DNS servers. I buy Internet access from Insight and formerly Cincinnati Bell. All I want them to deliver for me is fast, reliable access.

Whenever you tie web services to that access you lose in some way. You can opt-out by changing your DNS servers to one that is open. Insight can't stop that.

Face it people, this is what is going to happen. When a large portion of people go over to Comcast, Insight Communications has to make some extra money on the side now like the ads on the new menu for digital boxes and now this.

I use Gmail for my domain too. We share quite a bit in common!

Insight shows ads in the menu of digital cable boxes??? That is so lame. I love their Internet access but the more I hear about the stupid crap that they do the less likely I become to add their digital cable service.

Gentlemen,

This just started happening today in Louisville. I'm setting up a new computer and typed an address incorrectly and found myself staring at www33.not-found-entry.org. I couldn't imagine a new machine coming with such a setting and a quick search brought me here. It's clearly time to change the DNS servers. What a joke.

I love the speed of Insight but otherwise loathe them. I had Insight previously (right after the demise of @Home) and had so many problems I dropped them for years. It's this kind of foolish behavior that makes me continue to distrust them.

I'll be sending them a complaint email tonight.

I started experiencing this in Lexington over a month ago. After spending an hour trying to explain to customer support that it was not my computer because it didn't happen when I connected using other providers I gave up. I was even told "Insight does not subscribe to those types of services"

I have to say that I am burning mad about this thing... I noticed this yesterday in Evansville, Indiana. I thought maybe I had picked up a browser hijacker or some kind of spyware. I checked my laptop...same thing. I checked firefox...same thing.

I called support after reading a thread that it could be related to InsightBB. The support guy assured me that they weren't behind it. After persisting he finally conceded to check with a supervisor, came back and said that they had done some limited testing to see if it could get past the free CA security crap that they give away. But that was opt-in and it was impossible that they could have given it to me.

After the call, I checked my wife's PC (which we do not share or go to the same places at all). Shocker, she has it too. So I call InsightBB again. I get a different tech who is in absolute complete denial. I said it sure is a coincidence that the same thing is on three separate machines which are all behind a very new firewall and that they all have a software firewall plus Avast. He claims that if it were them then he would be flooded with complaints. Well I am A+ certified and do web development and design...I doubt most of InsightBB customers are. Finally he said he would get a super for me...I'm holding and then it's dead.

I found the opt-out part on the bottom of the page but why should I have to carry a cookie around for them. WOW has moved into Evansville and I would say this is the best thing that InsightBB could have done for them. I will either be going with them or DSL.

I just talked to Insight about this, and he basically said I'm SOL. I've already changed the name servers I'm using, but I wanted to make my complaint known to them. Hopefully they'll get enough that they'll realize this isn't in their customers' interest. You know, when Verisign tried doing this a few years ago, they got so much bad press about it, that they turned it off after only a few weeks. I know that Insight's change affects a lot fewer people, but hopefully the precedent will hold.

I just noticed this today. I'm in Louisville. Are people sure this is insight. I was concerned I might have picked up malware. I'm tired of this kind of behaviour by big orgs. Insight are already sneaky and underhand with their pricing.

Yes, it is being done by Insight. You don't have malware or spyware.

You can change your DNS servers to keep them from hijacking your browser.

Just got it in Lexington area. Took me forever to figure out that it was my network and not something else. I work from home using a VPN and this caused all sorts of problems with that. Half my webpages would no longer work. I ended up changing the DNS entry and it finally starting working.
