| reply to dsring Re: DIR-655 New Firmware Version 1.10
I bought a 655 a2 from newegg this week for the FiOS speed. Called the FiOS guys and had them release my linky's IP. Great Router, lots of features, but for the life of me I can't get port forwarding or virtual server working. Copied the settings over from the linky and rebooted. Nothing. Having to reboot after every little change in FW 1.10 is a PITA. Haven't even started to mess with the wireless or QOS. Thoughts?????? -- The Light Pipe is the Right Pipe !!! |

| reply to dsring one thing I noticed with this router is port forwarding will not work at all unless you allow the router to dynamicly assign your other computer on the network an ip from its dhcp table. It took me a few hours the first night to figure out why I couldnt get my web server box online since was setup with a static ip. |

I have not fooled with the QOS except to turn it off. I figured that if the OS has one and the router has one and they are both on, one or the other is going to butt heads with the other.
Anyone have some feedback on my ASSumption? |

The D-Link 655/4300/4500 have the best QoS available on the consumer market. The Ubicom implementation is excellent.
One feature I would disable if you are having issues is WISH. This is another form of QoS for wireless clients, but it appears to cause problems with some other router features. |

| reply to dsring Hi all
I just recently purchased this router (DIR655) from BlueshirtBuy (sorry). Installed it manually, no hitches, and within 10 minutes I had all of my computers (3 wired desktops, 3 wireless notebooks) surfing the web. However, I no longer have file/print sharing?! I plugged in my old router (WGR614), and file sharing was recovered as previously set up. Plugged in the DIR655 and... no file/print sharing!!!
Am I missing something anywhere in the setup? Do I need to manually change any configuration? Firmware is version 1.10, but I believe 1.11 is now out.
Anyone else encountered this problem? Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

1 edit | reply to decane Hi Decane (and everyone else reading this)
It seems that wireless partition is disabled. So I enabled it, and it still does not work. I subsequently disabled it, and still a no-go.
On this one desktop, if I go to My Network Places > View Workgroup computers, it does not see anything (no computers!). If I go to my wife's desktop (right next to the first one), it shows all computers on the LAN, but could no longer access any of the shared folders. I checked the router status, it shows that all computers have IP addresses and are connected.
All computers can access the internet with no problems (which is how I am posting this). I can ping all the computers, routers, and google.com and yahoo.com. |

My problem was the Protection Suite (Norton) that was offered by my ISP AT&T/Yahoo was wreaking havoc. The firewall would not allow me to share files, folders, nor printers. So, I just turned it off, and everything works fine. I made no changes on the DIR-655, except for the usual (SSID, encryption settings, login and password, and wireless settings).
If turning off the firewall does not work, just check on what band you are broadcasting (g and N, N only, etc.) and make sure your wireless printers can connect (ie. if they are on g, or b). Are your printers connected wirelessly (ie. have their own wireless card), or are they hardwired-and-shared to a computer which connected wirelessly to your LAN? |

| i have had a good 2 yrs w/ this router but then come just this week I was adding some items to port forwardinf menues and BAM, it appeared to save and I OK'd the reboot, but it reset to what must have been defaults cause I lost all my settings.
It took a long time to get connected to router again (no new yet) just to see if I could flash firmware. I went for v1.11 and all looked goo so far. However, after setting up my basics and rebooting a few times, I go to enter the port imfo, entering each about 7 items and then saving them. I OK it to reboot, but it dumped all my settings leaving me to start all over. Yet it keeps getting picky to get back up and running.
I also saved very quickly the initial setting I made before port settings, but upon reloading them from file, it reboots only to dump all again. back to default.
Anybody have any idea why this is happening? I really liked this router so I am anctious to keep it working. I know I had it for 2 years now, so is it just time for a new one? What model is replacing it with 5+ ports and 1000MB LAN and better "N" and maybe G wide? |

| reply to dsring How come the DIR-655 get all these firmware updates, and nothing for the DGL-4500?
The DGL-4500 and DIR-655 got almost identical hardware, and uses almost the same firmware. So why don't we get updates at all?
The DGL-4500 v1.02 is far from perfect, so where are our updates? |

| They sell more DIR-655 as it's the best router for Home/Small Business. DGL-4500 is for gaming also has dual band for wireless. Firmware should be coming out for that soon. Asia can't have dual channel so you won't find a firmware update for the DGL-4500 isn't sold in Asia nor will be the DIR-855 according to Asia forums. So they still have DGL-4300 and DIR-655. |
