Re: Orlando Brighthouse slowdown

Yesterdays test, Orlando Server

Today's test, Orlando Server

Interesting.

This morning I noticed I can watch CNN streaming video without glitches.

I decided to check my speed to see what's going on. A vast improvement over my stats from yesterday.

What gives?

It'd be nice to think someone at BH is chipping away at the problem.

I'll throw my name in the ring. I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and after 2 visits and an argument on the phone, I'm just waiting for verizon to move into town . (orlando area for me). Ive been having problems since october or before, same old run around everytime i call them. 'Oh sir your the only one with this problem' so i tell them 'theres a thread on dslreports.com about this very issue where many other customers are having the same problem' her responce 'heh (in a snotty tone) thats funny, because were not dsl'. So then I kindly told her 'no shit, its a broadband forum, not a dsl only forum'.

At this point I'm just tired of them, the second a better solution shows itself, brighthouse will loose me, regardless of if this is fixed or not.

Manually switching my DNS servers seems to have solved my problem.

I just tested and got (note the ping seems high):

FWIW, I am using:
4.2.2.1
& 4.2.2.2

I also lowered my MTU to 1364 although I do not think this is playing any roll what so ever.

Definitely seems faster for me as of last night. It looks like RR may have fixed something.

Speedtest.net, Youtube, and CNN Videos seem much faster. Anyone else?

Are there any Xbox Live users that are still experiencing slowdowns?

Also, to Rbanke: Orlando is AT&T or Embarq territory, depending on where you live...Verizon, as an ILEC, can't just "move in" unless one of those companies sells it to them.

Yes, I am noticing better speeds now...both in streaming video(You Tube, Yahoo & CNN) and with Xbox 360 downloads.

Wadda ya know.

Two days in a row where my speed is faster.

Download 2773
Upload 466

Still far short of ideal but better that what it was.

well like most of you, its gotten better for me. Lets hope it stays this way. Although it doesnt excuse the poor customer support.

rbanke, just curious but what plan do you have with road runner?

The highest plan I've seen with them is their 10/1 plan however your test shows over 15Mbit down.

Thanks

Mine has improved today as well and I am on the Premium plan.

Surprised this thread was still popular, hadn't checked in awhile. I haven't been home in two weeks but I will check on the progress/speed once I return. I've had the splitter replaced due to frayed wiring in it apparently. Not that it helped speeds much, but it got rid of the gaps in service.

Now if they could just match our speeds with what they offer in Tampa we would be rockin. Tampa Premium is 15/2.

Speed is great, but my ping blows...I don't suppose that is normal? I'm using OpenDNS's servers but I doubt changing that to Level3 would help at all?

My speeds are back up in the 10mb range as well. The day before though one of the BH supervisors slipped up and said they were aware of the problems and were working on them...LOL Funny I called them on it and they quickly changed their reply. Regardless it' running like it should but still have a high ping in speedtest when testing to "O"town? 160's? Think they are working on it though.

My speeds are back to normal as well. Still a slight ping issue as the previous poster stated but I can now watching streaming video and my speed test from speedtest.net Orlando/Tampa are right where they should be (minus the ~150 ping).

FYI, I have switched my DNS back to the BH default.
