4.2.2.2 - It's Level 3's.. still not an ideal solution.
Funny, that's the same DNS server I switched to.

It's a BIT better, but I'm still having issues on YouTube.

I'm not much of a downloader, so YouTube is really the only place I notice it on a regular basis... annoying.

I'm tired of calling BH! So today after over a month of technicians and such coming to my house with no solution... I finally googled and found so many threads like this one. I just want the 10MB's I pay for but I'm not getting. So I finally got a supervisor on the phone and the credited my account last month due to the slow speeds. I simply put it that I'm not paying for a 10MB if I'm not receiving it. Don't know if any of you are interested but it don't make any sense for me to pay for something I'm not receiving.

As far as other ISP's there are none in this area. Well my neighborhood anyways. But I have a friend that lives about five miles away and uses Comcast. He pays less than what I am for my 10MB's and he has 20MB dl's? Go figure....

I've been having the exact same problems since I moved here to Orlando. The speeds I'm getting are insane...I can't watch a 30 second youtube video...

How can an ISP rip customers off like this, and why is no one doing anything about it?

Just called them and they credited my account once again! No questions asked... Seems they know they have a problem. Also talked to supervisor and they have escalated my ticket...LOL Well hopefully they will start trying harder to live up to what they promote.

I also advised them I'll be calling them weekly with a credit to my account until the issue is resolved.

Complain too much and "Frank" the BrightHouse attorney will come a knockin'... They don't believe in fixing service, just getting rid of the vocal clients.

Are you able to provide a short description of how to switch to the the new DNS server number you provided?

I assume I make the change on my router. I see locations where I can put in the DNS numbers you mention but am uncertain if I'll screw things up.

Thanks

My advice is probably no good to you.. I strictly use Linux. Sorry mate.

It's in the TCP/IP properties of your network card. Change it from automatic to 4.2.2.2

Too bad I didn't find this thread before I switched from DSL to cable. Since I switched I am having the same problem you guys are super slow connection to certain sites. The Orlando/Tampa/Jax speedtest.net are horrible slow while Atlanta/Miami are blazing fast.

I had a tech out today to check everything, he even replaced my modem with no luck. I sent the VP of Customer Care an email describing our problems and a link to this thread. Hopefully the will get the hint from everyone calling in and actually do something about this.

Link for sending VP of Customer Care an email..

You can also use the OpenDNS servers...

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Directions on how to change your DNS with XP.

Dingle:

Thanks for the tip. I changed my DNS numbers per the instructions. Unfortunately no changes for me. Like others mentioned in previous posts, I get nice speeds when using the Atlanta and Miami server. As soon as I use the Orlando server I get awful results. Check out my screen captures above. Note when I use the Orlando server I'm upside down. My download speed is less than my upload speed!

So, is it possible to control where your connection passes through? Does anyone know if there is a way I can bypass Orlando completely?

Thanks

Failing any relief from BH, perhaps a good old fashioned class action lawsuit for breech of contract might wake them up.

The same type of class action lawsuit that forced Epson to settle with their customers due to the practice of misreporting the amount of ink left in ink cartridges.

My part of the settlement was $45 worth of merchandise at the Epson store. Not much individually but collectively Epson may have paid a large price.

I tried 4.2.2.2 and also 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 but Youtube videos still wont stream without lagging out frequently. Regular web pages work fine and direct file downloads fine. Just the streaming video seems effected for me.

There's no contract therefore no breech.

I'm in the Sanford area and am experiencing the exact same problems. For the first time, I am honestly looking at Direct TV (also for teh better HD TV)...I can DSL the internet, get landline for phone. I pay just under $200 for all, and it is frustrating. I really want BH to work, but I am concerned.

Actually I think they do care but it takes a major "RED" flag to get their arses in gear. I actually turned them on to this thread and many others like this one.

As far as a law suit, you would not be able to use breach of contract but couldn't it be false advertisement?

Also just out of curiosity how many of you have and alternative in your neighborhoods? Just wondering if people with this problem actually only have BH in their area.... I currently only have BH.

My "alternative" is 3mbps/384kbps DSL or EVDO (Sprint/Wireless wireless). Those speeds are woefully inadequate for the power user..
