[General] Free Alternative to ATT Mail with IMAP to boot

By now, unless you have lived under a rock, you are aware of Google's eternal beta free mail service, Gmail. Until this week, the service offered either web or pop3 access.

However, you may have missed that as of this week, Google is rolling out IMAP access to Gmail as well. Here is some info to get you started should you wish the compliment or replace the sometimes unreliable BellSouth/ATT solution:

»mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/e···new.html
»https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answ···er=75726

Note the roll out has not hit all Gmail accounts, so keep checking yours for IMAP options.

I already have IMAP with FastMail and AOL Mail.

With FastMail, you have to bring your own SMTP server the party with the free account.

My GMail account has not, yet, been upgraded.

As do I with my own domain and hosting account. This is one more free option.

I've been playing with my Gmail IMAP access. So far, it is working as expected. I plan to use it as a free email storage center. Moving archived email via IMAP is so much easier that forwarding gigs of messages via pop3 .
