| Irresponsible and slander I find this reporting irresponsible if not slanderous. There is NO and again I say NO proof that Comcast is throttling bit torrent traffic. I wish they would. This letter proves nothing execpt the customer support are to give the same message. Traffic shaping is part of running any network. Without it you only create bottlenecks or degrade use of the network. Do we need to put email traffic on the same level as streaming video? It is time all concern put away the black helicopters and act like rational adults. |

 | reply to Scatcatpdx Well, if I'm paying for a 6mb connection, then I want to receive my e-mail at... 6mb/sec.. If I'm streaming video, then I want to watch my video at... 6mb/sec.. I want what I PAID FOR.. I DIDN'T PAY for someone to determine what I can, and cannot do with my connection. THAT is the root cause of the problem, comcast is NOT ALLOWING ME to use what I purchased.. -- Stick it to the MAN. Support your local torrent sites. Proudly providing 100mb of upstream for all your TV, Movie, and MP3 needs. |

 | You see, that's the problem. You're operating under the assumption that you're paying for 6 Mbps of bandwidth. You're not. In reality, you're paying for access to a 6 Mbps pipe, with the ability to utilize "up to" the entire 6 Mbps. There is nothing anywhere saying that you're guaranteed X Mbps. The blame can't be laid at your feet though; the real problem is how these connections are marketed.
God I can't stand sleazy sales / marketing vultures...

 | reply to karlmarx The sad fact is, there are many other factors that go into your internet connection. For one, every computer in the link between your favorite website and your computer comes into play. If you're running windows, go into a command prompt and type tracert and see how many hops it takes and where the slowdowns are. Even the website itself may not be able to stream data that fast, especially if they are being overworked. Ever heard of "the slashdot effect"?
I'm not denying the evidence that Comcast has been sending forged RST packets. I'm just saying there are many reasons websites could be loading slowly that aren't specifically the ISPs fault. |
