Basically: An RJ11 phone jack uses the center pair for tip & ring of the first line, and the outer pair for tip and ring of the 2nd line.

Newer phones (last ~20 years or so) don't usually care which lead is tip and which lead is ring.

With Telco companies; the rule of thumb is to connect the light colored wires to light colored wires and the dark colored wires to dark colored wires.
So if you are going from the old red and green pair to the blue/white pair, you would connect the red to the white/blue (light colored), and the green to the Blue/white (dark colored).
(line 2) Yellow to White orange, Black to Orange/White.

Back to RJ11 cords.
Because polarity doesn't really matter, and they use the center 2 pins for Line 1 and the outer 2 pins for Line 2;
Let's just say Pin 1 = orange/white, Pin 2 = blue/white, Pin 3 = White/Blue and Pin 4 = White/Orange.

Now if you can't figure out which pin is Pin 1, then just flip the RJ11 plug around and it will be the first pin to the left, followed by pin 2, pin 3, and pin 4.

It would be a straight thru cable if used for pots. Color code the same on each end. If only for pots go with cat3 if it is cheaper. No need for cat5 for pots.

ok so from looking at other phone cords in my house their is 4 slots their is only 2 slots in use which is the middle ones. Now from what your say the blue and the blue white is that should be one side and the other side should be blue and the blue white but switched. So lets say on one side it goes blue the blue white. Then the other side should go blue whit then blue.

Typically you will use only the White/Blue pair for a single line phone.
* Pin #3- Negative terminal (red- old color code/blue- new color code)
* Pin #4- Positive terminal (green- old color code/white with blue stripe- new color code)
