 | [ Bright House] Orlando Area - Slow Download Speeds on Xbox Liv Ok this is going to sound strange and I know it. It's a unique problem that I have never run across before (and I've experienced most all problems that are possible).
This issue concerns ONLY Xbox Live downloads, and ONLY people in the Orlando area with Cable Modems via RoadRunner.
Download speeds are normal on PC's. There have been no updates to the live service (that we know of). Xbox live servers are operating normally for everyone else outside of this area. Tech support showed no issues on the MSN network, and Bright house Tech support would only test my connection to the Internet (which I already knew was working).
My question is if anyone else is experiencing this issue, and if it is possible that BH/RR has closed off ports recently?
The last time I had normal DL speeds was approximately 3 weeks ago, and a few days ago was when (I) noticed that the issue began.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have done everything possible on my end, including removing the router from the path, running speed tests on the PC, etc. Cannot run a traceroute because it is impossible to find out the marketplace server IPs, and if you run a general traceroute to Xbox.com once I get to hop 12 the servers stop responding (yet the site works fine, so I'm assuming it's due to Microsoft's closed network).
Thank you,
D. |

 | Re: [ Bright House] Orlando Area - Slow Download Speeds on Xbox I agree something has been up with RR for the last three weeks. I have mainly noticed that the news servers are running dog slow. My best download from news-server.cfl.rr.com has been around 850KBps but for the last few weeks I am down to 200 KBps. I know this isn't the same as your xbox issue but just shows that something is up with RR. |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite I am having the same issues but also with my PCs. I am lucky to pull 200kbs.. this morning I couldn't get ANYTHING but I could still ping at a ungodly latency.
Please email support@cfl.rr.com
I was given this address by a tech yesterday who replaced my modem and all connections. He tested my line on the bright house speed test which resulted in a 11Mbit result so he said their is nothing else he can do granted he also could not get other websites to pull up quickly but he understandably said he cannot control the internet.
Hopefully someone is watching that address. |
|
 | can anyone provide traceroutes to the servers you are trying to reach? |

|
 | reply to Dkwhite News servers have been fluctuating for me between 200-700kbps and usually hang around 300. All this in the last 2 weeks or so, I also notice an xbox content and youtube server slowdown. Very strange to say the least! |

Your ping times dont seem that bad, especially considering the number of hops. I assume from your previous post, that its not like this all the time. if theres a particular site that showing slow, grab pingplotter and leave it running while you surf. it will help track latency on the route to your slow site. |
|
 | Prior to this I didn't pay attention to ping times. I would surf and things were fast and if I fired up counter strike I got a decent ping of 50 or so. However for the last 2 weeks surfing has sucked. It does not matter where I go or what website I can only get about 30Kb. Its the same for all computers on my network (3) 1 mac and 2 PCs. I have even tried all 3 plugged directly into the modem with the same results. I really do not get how I can have a speed test max out my connection but when I hit any server for a download or website for a video it slows allll the way back down. Its just frustrating I was watching my bandwidth monitor when trying to download a few files from different servers. The connection would go from 0 to 50 to 0 to 110 to 30 to 0 to 150 every second. It was all over the place. Bright house is coming out this afternoon, A tech I got a hold of this morning said he noticed "an unusual number of disconnects from my modem" which was just installed this last sunday. |
|
 | good. it sounds like they can see something that they can track. |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite This is very unfortunate, because I've been using Roadrunner for the lats 4 years (I live in Daytona, its all central Florida right? ) and have had zero problems. But lately (in the last three weeks!) my connection speed has been hacked from 6 Mbps, to just under 1 Mbps. I've been on the phone with BrightHouse (the provider) on and off since it started, and even had a technician here to take a look.
According to him though, the weather is great. He checked a speed test provided by BrightHouse, and it reported 6 Mbps, just like it should. But I pulled up other speed tests that showed only 800 Kbps, and showed him my atrocious download speeds of 50-80, but he said there was nothing he could do really, aside from swap my modem (which he did).
So here I am, posting at 1 Mbps at the cost of 6 Mbps, and it is getting frustrating. Hopefully this will get resolved soon. |

 | reply to Dkwhite I have been having the slow downstream here in Avalon Park(Orlando) for months now. Paying for rr premium (10/1 here supposedly) and only getting between 3 and 8 down usually if I am lucky. I wonder if there is some way that we could set up a class action lawsuit for fraudulent speeds or service? Really screwing us over on this one. Two techs who I knew more about everything than they did came out. " signals are good, must be ok." If this is their answer all the time than they are used to lying by now. I know it's not my end, been building pc's for over 20 years with electronics engineering degree but "tech support" always tries to say it must be the computer. Router has been bypassed, speed checked on two pc's and obviously I keep up to date on spyware so anybody have any idea about what we can do? Don't really have an internet alternative here and tired of takin it in the arse. |

 | reply to Dkwhite Brighthouse is scheduled to come out again. It is great talking to these people. First tech on sunday: "It is impossible to get full speed through a router. You cannot get anything near it"
Me: Prior to 3 weeks ago I would regularly hit 10Mbit through the router on wireless at speed test websites and via downloading large files over FTP
Tech: I am not trying to call you a liar sir but you are mistaken. It just is not possible when using any router.
I asked him to transfer me back to the automated help line at that point.
Next guy was slightly more helpful in that his pings did not go as planed and there was a few packets dropped and I asked him to document it as no one ever seems to believe me.
How do I tell the line signal and such on my modem? I often see people post what the noise ratio is and such for trouble shooting. I would like to have this info handy for when the tech comes or to monitor it.
What is upsetting to me right now is this seems to actually be a area wide issue, Other friends are starting to see the same issues on all websites, the thing is, the connections still burst up to 200K or so which is fine for web surfing which is what most people do. It is also fine for the highly compressed youtube videos (just barely). Makes me wonder how many other people are paying for regular or premium but only getting lite service. |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite I m having the same issue. I just called Road Runner and I spoke to first customer support and she said that they are aware of the issue and they are working on it right now. I said to myself it so good to be truth, so I called again and I got Antonio which he said they are no reports from anyboddy abour slow speed. All networks are up to speed. Please call brighthouse and have them transfer you to road runner national help desk and repost slow speed download. This eventyually will arise the issue, and push them to troubleshoot it. Thanks |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite They now have about 30 calls from me (Winter Park) They will get more and I will also be requesting they remove roughly half of my cable bill if todays "fix" does not fix anything. |
|
 | This isn't just a RR issue as well. I have Earthlink and I have the same problem as all of you do. I had a third tech come out and replace everything and he said everything looked fine. When I tested it on a speed test site, on a Jacksonville or Orlando server I pushed 500kbs max. But on his Atlanta side, I pushed almost 9,000. I too would love for this to be fixed, as it's effecting my gaming and overall internet use. |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite Are you guys still having this issue? Has anyone who is having th issue been doing a large amount of downloading? Maybe through P2P networks or torrents? |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite I've been having slow downloads over XBL as well. I am in Clermont, with the RR premium (10mb) service. Is anyone else with RoadRunner experiencing slow downloads over Xbox Live? There are no issues connecting, but once connected a 4GB game file (Xbox Originals) takes 24 HOURS to download.
I've already confirmed it's not the XBL service as others on xbox.com have reported downloading movies and games in 2 hours or less. I've previously downloaded movies (2GB and up) in just under 3 hours on RR premium (10mb) connection. This has happened over the past month and a half. |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite Well my Xbox Live problem continues. It took me 10 minutes to download a 60MB movie trailer. The same file on my computer takes about 1 min 30 sec or less.
There must be something going on here because others are not experiencing this kind of slow Xbox Live network performance. Can anyone else comment? Please? Thanks! |
|
 | reply to Dkwhite Has anyone been able to determine the issue. I am having the same issue with slow download speeds, and Brighthouse claims no responsibility. |
