Platinum got a good deal!

...Covad's share price crashed after the telecom bust a few years ago and never recovered. If you add up all the equipment Covad owns and all the licenses/regulatory approvals to do business in all the states as a CLEC....Covad is a gold mine and the buyer got a hell of a deal!

The challenge, of course, remains, to turn a profit in the artificial market conditions created by the ILEC/Cable duopoly and their deep pockets. ...but Covad made it this long on its own, despite all odds, and has a better fighting chance with a new owner with a little bit of cash.

This company has nine lives and I hope it keeps fighting the good fight.

I am amazed that Covad is still in business after their multiple bouts with bankruptcy.

It helps that they expanded their product line with line powered voice and traditional T1 circuits but I wonder the future will hold for them as a broadband solutions provider.

The last mile has always been the greatest challenge... I wonder if they will deploy wimax or some other type of wireless technology to over come that hurdle. If they did (and I think they might be the right company to do it), they could gain a lot of marketshare from the incumbent telco's and cable co's.
