Re: Burning a dvd of a program recorded on dvr

Just get a stand alone DVD burner. This is what I did 4 years ago to replace my VCR.
Does your burner let you record every program on your DVR? I just got a Samsung combo DVD burner/VCR but have not tested burning anything from my DVR yet.

Some people said that some premium channels will not let you burn onto a DVD because of copy protection.

From FIOS it isn't a problem. Currently all content on FIOS here has no copy protection. On Comcast some of the premium movies do and some don't. For instance Star Wars Episode 1 is copy protected while the 5 other films are not.
With my DVD burner if I have an active HDMI output while trying to record copy protected content it won't record. IF the HDMI output isn't active then there isn't a problem. Of course on non copy protected content there is never a problem. I have my HDMi output going to a manual 2 way HDMI switch. And on the rare occassion I record something to DVD that is copy protected, I just switch to the empty port. That way I don't have to muck around with disconnecting any cables.

So you have the HDMI out going from the recorder to your switch & that is plugged into the TV.

Yeah I just bought a 5-port HDMI switch from monoprice.

How is your Fios DVR connected to your recorder, component or s-video?

The DVD recorder is using Svideo.
