Again, Verizon agreed to these terms decades ago, they need to live up to their agreement.

Unfortunately there will always be people who are stuck in such a situation. They're pretty much screwed until they get another choice in providers. However, that doesn't mean that people who do have access to competing providers shouldn't take it upon themselves to hold Verizon accountable by switching.
