Blame Comcast

I guess every little thing that looks out of place will cause everyone to jump on the "blame Comcast" bandwagon.

I guess they asked for it with their sneaky traffic-shaping.

That being said, if I caught some loser stealing copyrighted material on one of our connections, and I had a Sandvine box that could degrade his traffic, I would let loose on him.

We're a WISP, and these "something for nothing" mentality losers would be the death of our network. (yes, I'm talking to you, BT thieves)

That's why when we catch someone cooking their connection, we politely ask them to stop before we jerk their connection out from under them.

How can you know that downloading copyrighted material is theft? If somebody has paid an authorized publisher of the copyrighted material, then it isn't theft. If somebody is downloading copyrighted material under a distribution license similar to GNU, then it isn't theft. So how do you discriminate between authorized, and unauthorized downloading?

It's easy Norman.

Looking at a bandwidth graph, an obviously unattended, pegged connection is a telltale sign.

I am certainly happy that you aren't a cop, and I certainly would toss you from the jury pool, if I was in a position to do so.

A "pegged" download graph only proves that the downloader is saturating the bandwidth. It has no relation to whether the content being downloaded is "infringing", or not.
