Are these real scientists investigating spam?

A real scientist is impartial. They make reasonable assumptions and then test their hypotheses. Are these real scientists investigating spam? If so, why not just give us the facts? Jumping to the conclusion that the Ron Paul campaign is involved in a spambot based on thin evidence that a spambot campaign exists is poor science. 'By their works ye shall know them'. Is this science or political intrigue masquerading as science?
