| reply to ztmike just because a major inter backbone runs through a city doesn't mean it is easy to share to the end users. from what i know, the problem in getting the high speed lines the end user is more in the cost of deploying and upgrading the last few miles, not necessarily the pipe from a central office to a internet back bone. sure it is easier to make the pipe from the central office to the internet backbone bigger since you only need to run a few cables and a long trench. the other side may require many many seperate cables and man-hours to deploy a new infrastructure along new equipment. it becomes a lot easier if you can make use of the existing infrastructure, but old wiring has its limits. |
