 | Prices are Going Down! The economics of the cable and telephone industry has changed since 1995, therefore you can't compare prices for one service in 1995 to one service in 2007. For example, if you sign up for basic cable today only , the cable operators has incurred significant capital cost (laying fiber, personnel, equipment) to be able to provide internet service at a moment notice to your dwelling (pre-built).
In 1995, these capital costs would not have been a significant factor on basic cable rates. If I am a paying customer of broadband, phone, tv, why should I pay for this buildout to your house or MDU, it would be more equitable to jack up that person basic cable rates to maintain this capability.
It would be better to compare bundled price to unbundled price ten years ago. In that light, the price has gone down. Unlimited digital telephone for $20, broadband for ten times the speed of 1995 for $30-$40, cheaper and better cell phone service.
