Don't forget the additional 10.00 a month if you just have HSI service from them, so basicly 69.00 and 89.99

This month I have gotten 3 pricing packages from Charter. The 1 with 5mbit was:
5mbit $44.99
and you could save an additional $5/month if you also have digital cable and telephone unlimited long distance.

I have a good idea.. provide decent service since you haven't since May and it is November.. oh wait; it is more important to roll out new features while degrading old service
Talking to yourself? Oh wait you did the standard "If i have it everyone does" comment on the internet. Get real.

Are they upping the upload speeds too? This 256k stuff is garbage. I currently have the 3meg down/256k up but just got a letter today about the 5meg speed increase but they didn't say anything about upload caps.

I'm not talking about huge, excessive fees, but like the $79 for 10meg versus $59 for 10meg.

Maybe I should rephrase: "Charter will charge as much as they can get away with in each market". That would allow for artificial price ceilings set by municipalities.

I THINK a lot of that will go away (as the franchise agreements expire) because of the statewide franchise law (for MO)change that took effect in late August.

Charter is also very regional though. What goes for Glendale, CA, doesn't necessarily go for Texas, or Wisconsin, or Georgia. They basically charge as much as each market will allow. For instance, in some rural area, if they're the only game in town, and there isn't even DSL competition, They're free to charge as much as they see fit, which will usually be more than somewhere in Socal where there's FIBER getting laid, hung, strung, up the wazoo, and lots of competition to worry about.
Not true, smaller towns often will set franchise limits on cable providers if only game in town. A area won't let a single provider charge huge fees if income of area exceeds a certain amount. Heck my small down of little over 4k people is cheaper than St.Louis area.

my 3meg was/is $43 (that's with the basic/exp tv bundle price)- I just hope they don't raise prices here - last year or up until last year 3meg was $39.95. If they get rid of 3meg and raise 5meg to more than the $49 it's currently listed for I don't think I can afford it on my income.
I hear you there. $40 is my max for internet, even if it means going to Verizon DSL and their 1.5/384 plan and even though I could afford more. Maybe I'll get lucky and Verizon has removed the filters that were in the way last year when I tried them and I'll be able to get their full 3meg speed. I'm just waiting to see the final result of all the stuff they're doing around here.

I got a snail mail recently, saying the new pricing in my area (Morgan Hill, CA) is $59.99 for 5Mb -- and when I went online to chat with a rep about a separate issue, I asked what the new pricing for 10Mb would be, and I was quoted $79.99. So I don't know what everyone's talking about.

(I don't have bundle service though -- this is HSI only.)

speedtests are WILDY inaccurate, their accurate for slow tiers but usually not so much on faster ones. To some real download tests from some big websites like microsoft and then see.

Sigh.. Paying for 10mbits and getting half of that.

They probably won't increase the price and jjust give you a free bump. If not threaten to cancel!

Sounds good, I just may do that!

Do I have to reboot the modem for the speeds to go in effect?
This is weird, I did a speedtest right after at it showed near 10mbit speeds but now I'm back down to 3mbit.
