The way Apple and AT&T have it set up, the only legit way to activate an iPhone is using a SIM that is in it. You can't just take a SIM card from another device (even if it is associated with AT&T account) and use it in an iPhone (well, an exception to this could be if the SIM is from another iPhone). They do allow you to upgrade an existing AT&T account to iPhone (without a contract extension I believe), but during the activation process they deactivate your old SIM and associate the one in the iPhone with your account. Of course, you can still use that SIM from an activated iPhone in a BlackBerry (or any other unlocked GSM phone).

Of course, there is a way around it, which is to unlock the iPhone and use it with your BlackBerry plan or another GSM carrier altogether. However, should something go wrong, don't expect any help from Apple or AT&T should they figure out that you modded that iPhone.
--

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies...
A MESSAGE to the RIAA and the MPAA: You shouldn't wound what you can't kill...
