The way Apple and AT&T have it set up, the only legit way to activate an iPhone is using a SIM that is in it. Of course, there is a way around it, which is to unlock the iPhone and use it with your BlackBerry plan or another GSM carrier altogether. However, should something go wrong, don't expect any help from Apple or AT&T should they figure out that you modded that iPhone.
