It's not a separate network, it is the way the APN is handled. Blackberry uses a different APN then standard WAP or Internet. So you use the same GPRS/EDGE network but you connect somewhere else. I cannot find the details on where I saw this again, so I'm beginning to wonder if I was in a daze.

I do believe you are correct. I use the BB8830 to websearch quite a bit overseas and when I was in Taiwan, out of curiosity I used Ipchicken . com to find out if it would show the foreign IP address and it shows up the same as here in the US c000-000.blackberry.net (used 000-000 for example purposes). I do believe the web requests are routed over the blackberry server.
