Unlock Linksys PAP2-VN

I am new to VOIP and got a brand new PAP2-VN for Verizon with firmware 3.1.3 which does not need password to reset. I connected the PAP2 and a laptop through a router and got IP address "192.168.1.100" through IVR.
When I typed "192.168.1.100" in web browser, I was asked user name and password. I have tried different user names and passwords (e.g., "user" and "1234") and no success.
When I tried tftp I was asked user name and password again.
Does anyone know the user name and password for PAP2-VN?
I have heard some hardware hacks (jumper the EEPROM to put it into "safe mode" or remove and reprogram the EEPROM), but I would like to know if there is a way to unlock it without using a solder iron and programmer.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Ain't these admin passwords set by Vonage through some provisions? If so, then they are not going to work because the OP has a PAP2-VN from Verizon unless Verison is so stupid to use the same admin password through their provisions.

It is true those passwords are for Vonage firmware to reset PAP2 using IVR.
I can reset my new PAP2-VN without password through IVR.
My problem is I could not get into web interface without password.
I have never connected my PAP2-VN to internet. I installed sniffer and found only outgoing messages are:
"Gratuitous ARP for 192.168.1.100", "Who has 192.168.1.1? Tell 192.168.1.100".
I found DNS address for my PAP2-VN is "213.137.73.254" by IVR.
My pap2 doesn't search for "lsys$MAC.cfg" file at tftp server "213.137.73.74" as butlerj2000's provisioned PAP2-VN.
I am not sure this is because my PAP2-VN is still a "virgin" or because I did not connect my router to internet.
I found only butlerj2000 and meister_sd tried to unlock PAP2-VN by software last year without success.
I believe meister_sd is the only person posted ways to unlock any PAP2s including PAP2-VN by hardware.

How do you know that it isn't asking for the file? Are you using Ethereal/Wireshark? I have a couple of pap2-vn's and they all are trying that address.

Here is what I do. I have a computer with two NICs. The main NIC I set with an IP of 213.137.73.74 and use Internet Connect Sharing (ICS). The second NIC is connected to the pap2 using a crossover cable (I think a regular will work on a pap2) and have a tftp server running. The pap2 will attempt to get the file after about 20 seconds. This file I created that has no passwords in it. So after the pap2 gets the file - there are no more passwords in the unit. If you do a factory reset, then all the -VN stuff loads, but otherwise you can use it on any other service. PM me with your email address for the file.

I was using "Wireshark" without tftp server running. I will try the configurations you have suggested. Thanks for the detailed instructions.
I found another excellent post by you
»Re: RT31P2 Unlock thoughts??
I may need to "provision" my new PAP2-VN but I will try without "provision" it first.
It seems I also need a DNS server, the PAPs started to send DNS request "Standard query A Viper tftp.deltathree.com".
I will download the "simpledns" dns server.
I have limited knowledge on networking and have learned a lot in a couple of days.

No - Verizon, and others, authorize their equipment in part by using the MAC address. A device not in their database won't be activated.

I had my PAP2-VN unlocked lat night following "meister_sd's method to unlock PAP2-VN". Thanks for all your time and effort to develop the method. Many hours must have been spent to generate the "lsys$MAC.cfg" unlock file.
Unfotuentely my Verizon DSL has been down since yesterday and I have not been able to connect to any VOIP providors.

I could not believe what Verizon had done to me, they disconnected my DSL without telling me because I canceled Verizon local phone service three weeks ago.
I got my Cox high speed internet yesterday and configured my unlocked PAP2-NV (No to Verizon) with Callfree and Callcentric, both worked great.

I don't think you can send files via PM here. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

This is what I am trying to do but doesn't work:
I have a laptop with wireless connection and a LAN port. The wireless is connected to a netgear router. This router is not connected to the internet. My wireless connection in my laptop is set up with ICS so the LAN port should share the wireless connection. The wireless connection has this IP address: 213.137.73.74 . Then I am using pumpkin as the tftp server which set to give and get all files. The tftp directory has the cfg file that unlocks the PAP2-VN. I have the PAP2-VN connected to AC and then I connected to the LAN port of my computer. Nothing happens. If I check the IP of the PAP2-VN by dialing ****110# I get 0.0.0.0 However if I connect the PAP2-VN to the netgear router, I get 213.137.73.75 (I guess it takes this IP because the one ending on 74 is already taken by my wireless connection). Do you guys know what I am doing wrong? Please advise. Thank you.

Sounded like your PAP2-VN could not locate a DHCP server to get an IP Address in this connection.

BTW, I am not using a crossover cable to connect the PAP2-VN to the LAN port. Do you think that might be the problem? Do I have to set up a specific DNS server in the NETGEAR router or that doesn't matter?
Thanks.

I connected the PAP2-VN directly to the NETGEAR Router I according to the tftp the file has been successfully transferred. However, it does get the file every 20 seconds and restarts. I tried to access to the web interface but it still password locked. In order to have the file requested to the tftp server the NETGEAR router needs to be connected to internet, otherwise, there is not file request. Any ideas? The unit is still locked.

Probably when the router is connected to the internet PAP2 is taking the file from the real 213.137.73.74
I would do the following:
- setup your wireless card on DHCP or just temporary disable it to be sure doesn't have an internet connection
- setup the static IP address 213.137.73.74 on the LAN
- install and run a DHCP program and setup the range to someting like 213.137.73.100 ; you can use tftpd32.exe for DHCP and TFTP (»tftpd32.jounin.net/)
- connect pap2 to the computer with a crossover cable (could work with a straight one, but with crossover will work for sure)

You can have Ethereal running to see what is happening
