[HSI] New Speeds!

Did chat today and both 5meg and 10meg are available.

These are the prices I was told for my area:

Promotional 5 meg price - $39.99 for 6 months $62.95 after
Promotional 10 meg price - $69.99 for 6 months $82.95 after

I really wanted the 10 meg, but the 5 meg deal was better $$$ wise. The rep kept telling me 5 meg was a great option and he was always downplaying the 10 meg. It's like he didn't want me taking the 10 meg? I normally pay $56.95 so I figure I would be saving some money for 6 months if I went with 5meg.

So I told him I wanted the 5meg. Then there was a problem provisioning my modem that took about 45 minutes and was transferred in chat 2 times and finally told to call them. Apparently my Mac ID was still attatched to my old apartment address a few years ago?

Well, anyways I called and after being on hold for 9 minutes I hung up. Then called back and I finally got a hold of a really nice Charter rep and she fixed everything.

Just did a speed test and am getting 4801 down and 477 up!

Wow, Charter actually saved me money for 6 months plus gave me a higher speed service. Score one for Charter!

Edit: These are non-bundle prices since all I have is HSI.

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

Actually I have a question. My bill is due on Monday and is for $56.95 according to my statement. What will it be when I go in to pay it? Since I am paying for Charter service a month in advance should it actually be the new $39.99 rate?

I would expect they will prorate the bill. The prices you quoted are the rates we've had in Michigan since the beginning of the year when they offered 10MB service.

Reading the prices all over these forums and with Charter re-doing things, I sure hope that's not the right price for 5meg after 6 months, even if it is $10 more for not having cable tv!! Got my last bill a few days ago. No price change on it yet!

I'll be switching to Verizon, if that's the case. Always said $40 was my limit for internet.

Those prices don't make any sense, people are paying LESS than that now for 10meg. It makes no sense for them to raise prices on "older" tiers when adding a new one.

I would get someone who knows what they are talking about.

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

I think that is the stand alone price with a modem. At least that matches the prices here in St. Louis.

Laslow is correct. Those are the stand alone prices in Michigan too.

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

I pay $70 a month for just HSI from charter. Its 72.95 with modem rental. Been that way since 10meg came out.

Well, I guess my wife and kid are saving mw $10 then, because if it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't even own a tv. Which means I'd be on Verizon DSL too, as those prices are to much, in my book, for just internet!

Might be reading to much into this, but that looks like the price will go up to $52 even with cable tv? Man, you guys are messing with my head!!

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

Well, like I said above I really wanted the 10meg, but I could not justify paying that price after 6 months. That to me is crazy. Unless they offered another promotional price after the 6 months expired. So I will be on the 5meg for at least the next 6 months.

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

Its super cheap to me, I would pay up to maybe $200 a month for it if it was that much. I actually USE the internet so its very much worth it. Its pretty much the center for entertainment and bills.

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

Well if I wasn't stacked with medical bills I would get it. Those will be paid off in 6 months. So maybe they will offer a promotional rate for the 10meg at that time.

i talked with charter agin the price for 16 meg is gonna be 79.99 a month non bundled bundled with phone and cable 69.99 a month but they will have promotions for 59.99 a month

essentially in most area all they are doing is replacing the 3 meg with 5 meg replacing 5 meg with 10 and 10 with 16

Re: [HSI] New Speeds!

So those with 3meg will get an automatic jump to 5meg?
