The rub...

This is gonna be a tough sell to carriers.

People get all up in arms when phone providers lock down phones, and while I agree that to some extent it's annoying, imagine all the tech support issues that suddenly become the carrier's problem when people load a few dozen free programs onto their phone. Maybe not for advanced users, but for the vast majority, if their phone crashes they are going to call Sprint or Verizon for help. Suddenly carriers have to start providing service like OEM computer companies do, just to sort out whether problems are due to the actual phone or some 3rd party software that resides there.

"This is gonna be a tough sell to carriers."

Carriers will want to lock it down and I imagine Google won't want them to. Just release a GSM version and let users fend for themselves.

just what i was thinking, but still, phones are going to need to be compatible with att's high speed, then sprint's high speed..then verizon's high speed, and hell, t-mob can't even be considered a high speed service..it's going to take some ingenuity that I can't imagine anyone but google figuring out for cheap
