To save the gratuitous "what a rockstar-wannabe wearing sunglasses" comments of past years: he's blind, and that's why he wears them. He was the third blind person in the world to run a mile in under five minutes, was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2003, and has, at the request of Gen Rick Hillier, been to Afghanistan to perform for the troops there during the tour of NHL alumni last May.
