Hello,I was curious if there are any other Reztel customers in here.I just signed up for their 3rd Gear package(up to 2.0 Mbps) but I am only getting speeds of 260-340 Kb/s(speedtests here, etc.).
I contacted Tech support who told me I was running at 100% speed from that end. They also told me its 2.0 Mpbs burstable speeds(dont really know what that really breaks down to).Regardless,I can't even watch livestream from any websites at all without interruptions.
I talked to one other Reztel client in my area(rural bordering small town). He told me he was not happy with his service too. After $700 dollars spent,I am not to happy as well. |

| Hmmm. Reztel is wireless broadband. That's a fairly new beastie for this forum.

| reply to antonbubba I'm pretty sure they use Motorola Canopy which we also deploy in our serving areas. With wireless in particular the service will be *very* bursty. Depending on what frequency they use (it makes reference to 2.4Ghz) and how many customers are on a sector determines what kind of sustained and burstable speed you can get.....
That's probably not what you want to hear but they keyboard in their pricing is "up to" which is SO true in wireless technology due to it's limitations on a hardware basis... |

| reply to antonbubba Hi I live in Douglas,( Between Renfrew & Eganville) Ont & there was a Reztel rep out here & if 25 people sign up we can get it out here but @ a cost of 500 bucks each plus 50 bucks a month with a 2 year contract. But..... before I dish out the cash & get stuck in a contract that I cant get out of for 2 years I want to know if its worth the money. We have dial up, which is pretty sad, & there no hope of Bell bringing high speed out my way anytime soon, we have been told its coming for the past 2 years hahaha ya its coming alright !!! Please any good or bad input would be helpfull |

I'd send that traceroute to your ISP and ask them to explain why that's happening - theoretically the numbers you're seeing aren't possible... |

| They are in Kingston and you're in Douglas; about 3.5 hrs away - how do you get support at your location if needed - do they charge mileage ? BTW. There are local providers looking at bringing service to your area too, without contracts. They just haven't done the dog and pony show in the local newspaper. |

1 edit | This company is a pure joke!!! Now they have updated their website to include top speeds for (burstable and substained)for each package. A little too late for us unfortunate ones that bought into their unaccurate top speeds for each package.I am paying $ 44.95 plus taxes for their best package which barely gives me speeds in the low 300Kb(no where near what they advertise now and then). Even their tech guy(installer) has nothing nice to say bout their little floppy operation.I think they need some more experienced people from the top down. For what its worth though, its better than dealing with dialup. They just don't provide what they advertise.

| reply to sukki This is my first post here bear with me please...SUKKI...I am in Douglas as well...I am leary of Reztel because they are out of Kingston and also the contract. Was just speaking with VIC Communications in Renfrew and apparently we will be getting cable internet in feb-mar. They bought Killaloe cable and have high speed there right now. No contract required and 29.95/month with set up of 49.95 a bit more reasonable but I am not sure how it will measure up. |

| Just to share my experience with Reztel - let me start with the good. They have excellent customer service. The best in the business.
The bad - the service is slow. Actually, not a whole lot faster than dial-up on the lowest cost package. Also, it is not reliable. I signed up with the late last year (2007) and since then my service has been on again, off again, and not at all consistent or reliable. Sometimes it is down for minutes; other times it's hours, and over Christmas it was days.
I keep hoping for an improvement. I am picking up the signal from Foymount and live near Golden Lake. |

| Hmmm...that not great i guess...I am here in Douglas and they called yesterday and said everything was ready to go and they would begin installs this week. I am not sure what to do now. That place in Renfrew said they would have cable here in Feb-Mar and it is cheaper to install and on monthly..no contract.. and they said they could dedicate 5mb if I needed it for a few bucks more a month. Sounds to good to be true and i have heard bad things about them from others so i am not sure what to do now. I just dont want to be paying for service that is not working or is not fast enough since I want to be able to work from home. |

1 edit | Re: Reztel Runaround
Reztel did some work at the Foymount tower on Friday, and everything seems to be working fine now. I must say that Reztel is really trying and their customer service is tops.
I also tweaked Firefox so that it is loading pages much faster now. It's amazing how much faster the 'broadband' service now is. Perhaps a lot of my slowness was due to Firefox rather than my broadband connection.
Here is how to tweak Firefox. It's amazing how much faster it does work after implementing these minor changes:
- - - -
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now! |
