Embedded video support

YouTube and Google videos are the only ones allowed to be embeded in posts here.

It sure would be nice if the DSLR/BBR allowed embeds from stage6, dailymotion, Veoh, revver, break.com, Metacafe, myspacetv and liveleak.

Embedded videos are annoying, and can make a 4 line thread 2 pages long. In fact, embedded videos should go away all together, and go back to a simple text link like it used to be.

I'd also like it so quoting a post with a video, the ideo link gets stripped out, so it doesn't repeat.

But one caveat. Posts which request additional embedded videos in the same thread should be limited, possibly by locking the thread after a certain number of embeds is reached. This is because when your forum view preferences allow 100 posts per page, the load times for the thumbnails on 100 or more embeds is absolutely ridiculous. Perhaps a broadband forum limitation of 3 or 4 embeds per thread is in order.

if you are going to allow videos to be embedded, you should not restrict it to only youtube and google video

Mostly anyway. I'd like to see as many types as possible supported, however if there really is a good reason for not doing it, that's understandable.

Just because you don't upgrade YOUR connection doesn't mean that the rest of us shouldn't get features we would love to have. If your computer can't handle it, why are you in that forum anyways?

Saying that, maybe embedded video should only be allowed in 56k Beware!

Easier to watch something in thread than having to go to a site full of ads and other crap.

If the video host is going to encourage hotlinks by providing code, let's enjoy it. YouthTube and Google Videos aren't the entire video universe any more.

I participate heavily in another forum, and I'm so used to being able to upload images and *some* videos here, it annoys the crap out of me that I can't do it there. No videos at all (links only), and no direct uploading of images from PC, third party image hosting site for images....how "yesterday". They claim it's because of people who still use dialup. Granted, this particular forum has a high percentage of people from Europe and other countries, but sheesh, how many could possibly still be using dialup to warrant no embedded videos for everyone else?

I think ALL forums should be mandated to allow the uploading of images and embedded videos.
