if you know the Bell issued area code and exchange (not a cell phone, not a VOIP number, not a CLEC number) then you can use »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco to reveal the name of the company. realize garbage in, garbage out, so be sure to use the Bell issued area code and exchange.

If I've got (probably) Verizon/MCI issued area code and exchange, is there similar link for Verizon/MCI?

best bet is to find a Bell issued phone number of a neighbor, a nearby payphone, a nearby store or business.

Phone companies have to file tariffs with the local state Public Utilities Commission. They ought to have info who services the area you are interested in.
