| Anyone else experiencing slow/non-existent torrent speeds?
This started occurring suddenly late morning/yesterday afternoon.
At first I though it had something to do with the fact that I changed my WINS setting from "Default" to "Enable Over TCP/IP" as every time I connected my cable, "Acquiring Network Address" would stay in the task bar even though the actual connection worked fine.
That didn't fix it, so I went to change it back and noticed my static IP setting had reverted to "Obtain IP address automatically". However, even though my router was configured for a set static IP, my torrents still connected OK. Can anyone explain that?
So, I changed it back to a static IP (albeit a different one than before as the Port Forward site recommended a different address than before) and changed my router's Virtual Sever (it's a D-Link) settings to reflect the changes.
I'm not sure how long it took, but late yesterday morning my speeds slowed to a crawl and in some cases were non-existent. I had two torrents that I had started that were 97/98% completed after approx an hour that had suddenly been unable to find any seeds (and they haven't been able to since).
So does anyone have any advice? Is it just me and something with my settings or could it be another Rogers issue and I'm not alone?
Thanks. |

| WINS should have no impact on your torrents.
I am assuming that your torrent settings are correct. If you use utorrent, it should give you a green circle in the status bar. I can only guess but maybe all the seeds on those two particular torrents jumped ship. Do you see any other users on the torrent? |

| reply to MystikTK uTorrent shows the green circle with the check mar in it, so everything is OK as far as it's concerned.
As for the no seeds, the torrents all have approx. 100 seeders in the swarm but I can't connect to anyone.
I even tried a torrent from a private tracker that had 900+ seeds and could only connect to 4 and get a speed of 50kb/s when I usually download the same size file (700mb) from the same tracker and same uploader in approx. 30 mins.
This is starting to look like what happened when Rogers first started blocking torrent connections for me 1.5-2 years ago. |

| Personally, i haven't stopped experiencing poor performance with torrents since they implemented the stupid throttling system. Today i was switched from a 74 range ip to the dreaded 99 range ip and now im getting even more of a decrease in performance. With the 74 range i was at least getting a somewhat comfortable speed of around 300 kb/sec and now i have a hard time getting even 100 kb/sec. This is getting really out of hand. |

| reply to MystikTK Hey, it beats 0 kb/s.
I'm genuinely considering (again) just switching over to DSL. Rogers is much too unstable for me. Between the torrent issue, supposed spying (friends of mine have gotten letters about movie downloading along with lists of what they downloaded) and frequent disconnect/re-connects that are a huge annoyance (another thing I was hoping the WINS setting would fix), I'm running out of patience. |

@rogers.com | It's not Rogers spying on your friends. It's the movie companies that log the ip's the are downloading illegal content and then pass the warning along to Rogers who passes it to your friends. |

| reply to anon435435 Ah, I see.
Now, I'm not going to claim to be a boy scout and say that I've never downloaded anything illegal, but most of my torrent usage is 100% legal (bootlegs/recordings of live shows from trade-friendly artists), so I'm really discouraged by all of the traffic shaping.
I'm hoping it mends itself in time like the last time tis happened, but I'm not holding my breath. |
