[billing] cheapest method for naked DSL for existing customer

I'm trying to minimize my $80/month Verizon bill. I intend to get rid of our phone service and port the number to BroadVoice where I already have a business relationship and can tie that into my Asterisk box here at the office.

It's my understanding that in order to do this, I will have to completely cancel my service with Verizon after I port the number and have a new 'number' issued for DSL.

Verizon tells me it will be $39.99/mo for my current service (3mbit). I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get high speed (I'd be fine with 1.5/384) from them and minimize our DSL downtime at the same time.

Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? Another option would be Comcast, but as far as I can tell, that costs a fortune when you don't have TV service with them (I have DirecTV). On the other hand if I don't use DSL, I could then wire a SIP type hub into my entire phone jack 'system' so I wouldn't have to put a Sipura on each phone. Thanks!

Re: [billing] cheapest method for naked DSL for existing custome

I don't know how to handle the porting of the existing phone number. I did convert a lineshare to a dry loop, like you are proposing, and the price was $39.95 for 1500/384. They charge the same rate for 1500/384 as for 3000/768 and simply give you whichever your circuit will support.

If by chance you have a second phone line which you are also planning to dump, one option would be to transfer the DSL to that line (and hence a number you don't care about) and then convert to dry, but it's always risky to move DSL to another line.

The absolute first step on coverting to Dry Loop is get the Dsl billing onto a credit card auto-pay first for at least a billing cycle or two.
