The product itself isn't a particular sham if you can deal with a wholesale sale of your privacy in exchange for long distance service but the people behind it sure are shady as hell. EDIT: In response to the live chat, I received an email from Dan Borislow. Since his email is not from the magicjack domain, I would rather not post it publicly. He replied and forwarded my issues to a couple of other people, and they will be replacing my MagicJack. So hopefully this will be solved soon.

I tried to ask the agent for a phone number, email address, or something, but after a while, he just stopped chatting with me!

So luckily I purchased this with PayPal, and I just submitted a dispute with them. I've figured it out. Dan will keep that forum locked until us old timers fade away and no longer come around to criticise his product. As the forum was being deleted, the forum admin did make new forum sections... that is until he saw that people were starting to make critical posts about the forum deletions. As soon as the admin saw that, those new posts were deleted and the forum was locked again and have remained so ever since.

Hiding forums, closing the chatroom and now locking the forum to hide the MANY negative posts about Magic Jack... Way to go Dan. Instead of using the criticism to better your product in a timely manner, you've just isolated a huge portion of talented people that were willing to give support to your customers for free. I understand what you are saying. I was an early adopter of VOIP and went through some trying times with it. I think by using the term "forecast date" tends to downplay the fact that what most of us early adopters were told there would be extra features, more telephone numbers in most major cities, a webportal, ability to switch your phone number, etc. etc. by specific periods in time - all of which have now passed.

What I was saying in my original post was basically this:

Quit coming up with doubletalk and tell us what you are going to do, and when you are going to do it. If for some reason your need additional time tell us so. What is so hard about that? After all, they are the ones making the pitch, they are the ones selling a product full of promises I am just the consumer waiting for them to deliver what they promised. How about the "follow me" feature? They make it sound like it's already available on the sales site. Then before they conveniently shut down their boards under FAQ they had a post back in April saying that feature would be available "SOON."

Hmmm, there's that MJ buzzword again - SOON.

I think that the product has potential but MJ needs to be honest with and take care of it's customer base. Stop telling me how the inventor is a JD Power awards winner and start acting like a JD Power Award winner.

FWIW I am not giving up hope on them, Pissed - yes and I'am not the only one out here. I'm glad Dan isn't rushing the product out of beta. It's best to get more area codes and fix the network to be up as close to 24/7 as possible.

It's true the forecast dates for webportal and other improvements tend to come later than is predicted, but be patient. I know that is hard to do with this being a microwave society. However, good things come to those who can wait.

Adding 3 more months to an already 8 month beta program puts MagicJack at an 11 month beta program. Hell even Microsoft doesn't take that long Dan.

I don't really believe that the forums you took down were confusing at all. As a matter of fact they were very helpful. Many knowledgeable users were helping others out when your customer service couldn't be found. Lately people started to gripe about the product and service so many of your "loyal beta customers" really believe thats why the boards came down and got locked up.

So why don't you really come here and tell us all something concrete. Like what is coming and when. Then have your company make good on your word. Their is going to be a major,very positive changes happening over the next 90 days and the service will be much different once again from how it looks today.I will say in advance,when these changes take place and in combo with coming out of BETA,the forum will change once again.At that point,it will have more of the company's attention and will be a fixture on the website.

Having said that, I own 2 MJ devices and use atleast one of them a lot. The service is acceptable for the money they are charging.

However, I cant just stand them deleting the threads from the forum. I suspect they are expecting good sales for ThanksGiving and Christmas, and might be afraid the negative comments on the forum might adversely affect the sales. But I call this curbing the freedom of speach. Now, I am pissed off - the forum is just going to be a Praise-Bench for the stupid MJ.

and start reading (the sections devoted to Device, Softphone and Phone Service). You will see the problems people are having with the device. You'll also see some of the people posting here have done a fair bit trying to help people to get the device to work, whether it was a hardware or a software problem.
I did send an email to Dan Borislow, telling him the decisions he made are IMO, poor. In my experience, even when a forum changes software, or domain names, the old posts aren't erased. A forum may lock the doors so you can't post and move you elsewhere but the old posts remain so you can at least read them. I also have no problem with any mod/admin altering posts and removing spamming and flaming but every post - you have to admit that is a bit much.

I go to several forums and I'm mod/admin at a few of these. I will be spreading the word at these forums "DO NOT PURCHASE" a magicjack. It is in beta and the owner seems very eager to eliminate any signs that the product is not ready for prime time. I suspect he wants people to buy these gizmos for the holiday season and after they buy it, discover it is flaky, in a lot of cases.

I have nothing against beta products. I do have a problem with any company trying to hide problems with a beta product. I beta tested CounterSpy and to date, that forum has not been locked not all the problems we had with v2 wiped!
