| [trouble] Opt out of DNS redirect with modem in Bridge mode
So I want to "opt out" of the DNS redirect... I set up my router to have static DNS set to 71.252.0.14, 71.250.0.14 (it use to be x.x.x.12 like the documentation said) I changed it to .14 like the instructions said, yet I still am getting redirected to Verizon's search page... on my router though it has 3 DNS entry fields I set them to the following
71.252.0.14, 71.250.0.14, 71.252.0.14 (the 3rd one is just there to fill the possible dynamic 3rd one) but it is reporting this when I look at the current DNS info 71.252.0.14, 71.250.0.14, 71.252.0.12 and when the first 2 fail the lookup the 3rd .12 one processes it to verizon! now my modem is in bridge mode and is a westell 6100, do I have to change something there? I thought just changing it at the router level would do the trick but it keeps pulling the .12 one somehow from the modem.... any ideas? its a Linksys router running the Tomato 1.11 firmware |

| reply to neufuse there is nothing set up at the workstation level besides "auto detect".. setting a DSN setting locally seems to override the verizon dns perfecly fine... but I want this done at the network router level... so I dont have to set up DNS on workstations... |

| Don't know why it would work at one point and not the other. What happens if you try one of the 4.2.2.x servers as the third one in the router? Or even the first? If all else fails, just hook up a laptop with a static lan ip to the modem and change it there as well. |

| I wouldn't think so, which is why I suggested using 4.2.2.x in the router first. If you are still resolving to the redirect with it at the 3rd position, move it to the 1st. Or you can just log into the modem and remove whatever is listed there and be done with it totally. |

If your modem is in bridge mode which is suppose to be then change only the router's. If you want to use DNS settings from the router, assign the static ip of the router's LAN ip for the pc to use the router's DNS. In auto dns settings in your pc, it will use the ISP provided DNS. Check it out from a command prompt, type ipconfig /all. |
