| [TIME WARNER] New Software and HD DVR are really bad.Mystro Suck I live in Astoria, NY.I just got one of the new HD DVR box from TWC( Explorer 8300HDC). This box freezes all the time and its terrible guide(MYSTRO Navigator) as well.
The software is a piece of crap. The box is very slow when it comes to switching channels and even worse it sometimes shows me a message saying "you have to buy this channel.Please Call customer services blah blah". Which it makes that message even worse is that this message appears on regular channels like nbc, wb11, etc , etc.
The HD DVR that run passport are so much better. I'm wondering if I could switch the DVR and get one that runs passport in it.
Is anyone else having the same or similar problems with these new crappy HD DVRs? |

Columbus, OH | Re: [TIME WARNER] New Software and HD DVR are really bad.Mystro Unfortunately, Mystro is the wave of the future :/ Locally we have been running into the same issues, Problem is, We can no longer get HD-DVRs that run Passport since the warehouse has just stopped giving them out.
Also, even if you get a passport version, eventually Mystro would get loaded onto it once they roll it out completely.
The is hope, however, I know they are working alot of the bugs out, Sometime soon they are supposed to be launching the next update. |

got the same box yesterday, had the 8300 hddvr and wanted to swap for another 8300 hddvr asked the csr at time warner store in the Queens Mall She told me because of the FCC rule requireing cable boxes to have cable cards, the 8300 is no longer being issued, the c at the end indicaates the cable card, so far so good with mine only problem with mine was i was not reciveing Discovery HD and ESPN HD2
but was reciving all the hd premiums untill i called them. missing HD channels were back but the premiums were gone, one thing i do dislike is the channel changes are alot slower than the 8300 running Passport, my guess is its because of the cable card |

| I had to reboot this DVR for the million time. It sometimes turns on but there's no picture on my tv and it only shows the info guide bar.
Why TWC?? Why? I thought that TWC had the best Software but Passport is gone. I just wonder why TWC didn't get the passport upgrade for the cable card boxes. |

1 edit | seems like the box you got may be defective take it back to the tw store at queens center mall make sure to have the csr get you one in a box, when i got mine they tried to give me one with out a box, which i refused the csr then went in the back and got me one in a boxwith cables and manual |

I was told they are moving to Mystro for a few reasons:
1. Unified look and feel across divisions, So if you move from NY to NEO and got TWC Again, the guide would operate the same.
2. TWC was paying for Passport and SARA, With Mystro they are developing it in house, so they dont have to pay for each upgrade and new feature they want to add.
3. Faster to develop new features. Since the company no longer has to have a outside party develop the software, they can add new features (Like Startover) quicker and roll them out nationally quicker. |

I am in a time warner area that used to be comcast where they use motorola boxes. If i were to get say another hd dvr in my house, what box would they give me since supposedly the box has to have cable cards. |

I was watching tv when all the sudden the message bellow appeared in my tv screen few minutes ago.
CABLECARD FIRMWARE UPGRADE
TUNEFREQ: 705000 KHZ
COLLECTED BLOCKS: [328/426]
STATUS: 80% COMPLETED...
And as soon as it finished my HD DVR 8300 Explorer HDC ..... kept working slow as usual  |

I have had Time Warner Cable for over 20 yrs., never had a problem until now. I have had the Explorer 8300HD DVR for over a year. Two weeks ago the hi def channels started breaking up, but not every hi def station had a problem. Non hi def channels were fine. I had a tech come out and he replaced all the connectors at the ends of the internal cable wires in my house. Fine for a while, then it started again. Tech came out again and put in a new connector in the main outside wire. Fine for a while, started up again. Last week a tech came and replaced the box. Fine for a week, and this morning I find the box is stuck in a continuous booting loop. I have no picture on my expensive high def set. Whats more instead of Passport I see Mysrto as it is booting up. The message says that everything is being converted to Mystro and if the message isn't gone in 30 min. call the cable rep. Call Time Warner Cable and the rep on the phone said there has been no change or upgrade and I should bring in the box for a new one. What is going on? |

This week Mystro (Samsung SMT-H3050) has tried to update itself twice and has failed both times, after spending approx. 12 minutes trying to download something, with a message saying there was a network error, limited services available. The Samsung firmware remained version 1.7.6 after both updates, I don't know how to check the version of Mystro.
Oh, did I mention the cable box works like crap? Channels change slowly and HD channels often don't load, or they become frozen at random times. Some On Demand channels don't load at all and say "please wait," locking up the cable box. Picture and sound quality, and volume levels vary wildly between channels. |

I'm having the same problems with my Explorer 8300HDC. Video on Demand channels don't load and my DVR freezes at random times as well.
I hope TWC could fix all this bugs before the end of the year.
I miss Passport Echo so much. Passport Echo was way faster when changing channels and when loading the DVR list or any Video On Demand Channel
Oh I also used to use my dvr as a alarm to wake up.I have to set up the Wake up timer every day because Mystro doesn't have the option to set up the wake up timer to "MON to FRI" as Passport Echo ...Mystro sucks!!!
