[connectivity] Another westell 2200 and linksys router thread -

Hey guys, I am coming here pleading for help.

The setup
Westell 2200 Modem
Verizon DSL
Linksys WRT54GL router

I originally had a wired Linksys setup perfectly as per the instructions on this site.
I set the 2200 to bridge, had the wired router as my PPPoE, and all was hunky doory.

Well I bought the WRT54GL to upgrade to a wireless system. I took out the wired router, put the wireless in it's place and wired a connection from my computer to it to set it up.
For the life of me, it will NOT see that the router is connected.
I was on the phone with linksys support for 2 hours and they got me nowhere.

I have tried resetting the modem and router and setting the modem to bridge, but when i add the router back into the loop, it will not show up. I have tried the linksys east connect feature (which worked perfectly with my wired linksys router - it found it and configured it automatically). but it refuses to recognize that the GL is connected when i replace the wired with it.

I can provide any info you all need to help me, I am begging! I have been at this 2 days solid and have nothing. I have looked through all the posts here on dslreports that relate to the modem and to the router - and none of them have led me to my solution.

(I am connected to the net now directly through the westell so I can post this)

Re: [connectivity] Another westell 2200 and linksys router threa

I'm assuming you set the GL for PPPoE and input your account username and password? Beyong that, I'd try another one, it sounds like maybe the WAN port is dead to me.

I can't even get to the GL to set it to PPPoE

When I connect it to the computer ( one of the GLs numbered ports directly to my computer) it will not even read that there is a router there.
I went out and bought a G and tried it too, same thing! It will not even recognize that there is a router there.

Meanwhile if i hook up my old ebay special 4 port linksys wired router, I can login to it and mess with it's settings.

Could it be possible that I have 2 brand new routers (1 from newegg and one from walmart) that are WAN dead?

You weren't clear. So you can't access the router from the pc then? Do you have disabled all firewalls? Is the pc setup to get an IP automatically in your Network properties?

Sorry for not being clear, a couple of days of this and I have fried my sanity.

Correct, I cannot access the GL from the PC, or the G, but can access the old wired linksys.

Firewalls: Turned off the microstoft one and have uninstalled the Avast! antivirus thing I had on the computer.

Network properties: everything is set to obtain IP automatically.

One more point to clear up. You can't access even wired, or just not wirelessly?

I have the wireless wired directly to the back of my computer, and i open explorer, 192.168.1.1 and get nothing.

Problem solved!!!!

Network card was all wacky.
It would onyl work when I wired it to wired routers. When I wired it to a wireless router, it would not recognize it

Grabbed a new card at walmart, put it in, and tada, DONE.

thanks for the help, still saved this thread as reference if i need it later

Ya I am stumped as to why it was the network card.

It would not work on the linksys GL I had, the linksys G i bought this morning, OR the Belkin I bought this afternoon to try.
I was at walmart and saw the cards there, and figured what the heck, 15 bucks worth a shot.
Instant I plugged it in, I could access everything on any of the routers, including the ebay special 4 port wired linksys.
