The problem with all these arguments is that all these ISPs are private businesses and you are using their equipment regardless of what you are using it for. So if they want to throttle down, throttle up or otherwise shut you down on a whim because they don't want to end up in the middle of any sort of legal issue- they can. It's their stuff. It's their service. Now if you want to leave them because of it and go to someone else; they don't care. The handful of people that need that much encrypted bandwidth is nothing compared to the millions that just need a few megs or even just a few hundred kb to surf the web, check email and send grandma some pics. Those people are their bread and butter - Oh- and of course the business customers that contract up front for x amount of bandwidth and usually do most of their web hosting and static IP shopping all at the same place. |
