It would help sell the damn thing.
Despite what anyone claims, pirated material and porn are the top driving forces in people paying for faster and faster internet connections. You don't need, and simply can't justify the cost of a 7000/1000 internet connection for web browsing and email. It's for the content downloaded.

Add Divx/XVid (and in my opinion h.264) support to the XBox and Playstation, and watch them start flying off the shelf.

And to the issue of TVersity and others like it, yes it works, but you are still transcoding the content. I've played with just about every piece of software out there, and I can still tell the difference in video quality. Thats after you get past needing a decent enough host PC to actually do the transcoding.
--
Intel Quad Core QX6700 @3500Mhz/Asus P5N32-E SLI/4x 1024Mb Corsair/WD 74Gb Raptor/PNY 7800GTs SLI/Antec 550 True Control/Custom water cooler

My 5 year old likes to play games on them, but othewiuse the system goes unused except as a media center. My 11 and 8 year old kids love streaming music and movies from the server. They think it's great that the music they listen to on their PC can be cranked over the HTS.

It also cant do .TS/.TP files. I have a HTPC (Dual Core AMD system) running Media Portal, but its just not the same as XBMC. I would really like to replace it with a better system. If they do this, ill jump on the Xbox 360 bandwagon, but basically use it for media only (my original xbox is never used to play games).
