[POLL] Anti-Virus Programs - 2008 Member Choice

A big thanks to mers2 See Profile for doing a great job on our previous AV poll!

I'm sure we all know what the purpose of an antivirus program is:

Antivirus software consists of computer programs that attempt to identify, thwart and eliminate computer viruses and other malicious software (malware).

Antivirus software typically uses two different techniques to accomplish this:

* Examining (scanning) files to look for known viruses matching definitions in a virus dictionary
* Identifying suspicious behavior from any computer program which might indicate infection. Such analysis may include data captures, port monitoring and other methods.

Most commercial antivirus software uses both of these approaches, with an emphasis on the virus dictionary approach.

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antivirus_software

So without further ado, please vote and let us know what your favorite AV program is, and why.

Also, if you use none, or online scans only, please indicate that also. If I've missed anyone's favorite AV program, please vote other and specify the program.

Thank you for your participation in the 2008 Member Choice AV Poll!

I've been using AVG Free Edition for several years now and am happy with the level of protection. Thanks for the poll, L.L.

Re: [Poll] Anti-Virus Programs - 2008 Member Choice

I voted McAfee, since that's what I am using when I boot Windows. It isn't really my choice, it's my employer's choice.

Mostly I run linux without a scanner.

Other = Norton 360 (The Anti virus portion may be similar to NAV, but it seems to be less resource consuming, so I am reporting it as "other"

Thanks for the poll, La Luna See Profile!

I use Avast free on those rare occasions when I'm in XP. I used to have BitDefender as on-demand backup, but recent changes convinced me to dump it.

Still using the free version of AOL KAspersky 6, and I will continue to do so until the license runs out next year.

I learned about NOD32 from this website about 2 years ago, and haven't looked back since. Low on resources, high on detection, and a pleasure to use.

Great poll La Luna See Profile!

Avast is my primary AV and I seldom, but do occasionally run an on demand scan with Bit Defender Free.

Same here.

Also run SAV 10 on a couple other PCs since I get free home use from work.
