To me it should be government owned like water. Tired of this profit crap. The internet is a basic necessity these days. You can't go to school without having the internet these days. Its required for many classes. You can live without it but its required for our daily lives now and is a necessity to work in the world today. Companies are getting out of hand. What happens if i got you a jug of water that was purified by the water company and let you have a few of them(share). Does that make me a criminal. The taste of the water is copyrighted by the water company but does that make me a criminal. I don't think so. Doesn't make sense with music and all that. P2P sharing is a revolution and not a novelty trend thats going to go out. Its a way of life now. Nothing can stop it. Why go 15 miles to a music store and come back when i can just double click a song and get it in 15 seconds or even less. I wouldn't mind paying like 5-10 cents a song either. 99 cents is just way out of my buget for each song. It adds up big time. 2 dollars a month for unlimited downloading i wouldn't mind either. I use bittorent for loads of llegal ways also. Downloading linux, demos, betas, free games, big files, big video files, and all types of things. People are like racist again p2p/bittorent these days. Its like if a black guy killed a man then you would say all black people are killers. Same thing with torrents. Its like you see one guy using it for illegal material then you call everyone pirates that use it. Its a generalization thats not even true. These companies are just trying to hinder a technology thats going to be change the world of the internet.

To the poster above me, I would definitely not want the Government in charge of my Internet... They've got enough on there plate, and there not even managing to do a good job there.

Honestly this is just what happens when more people get access to the web. These business see profit potential and they do not want to let the $$ slip by..Same with the Music and Movie Industry.. They want to remain in control. But again it's all for the money. And they are business so I do not blame them.

But I would say that it's gone beyond profit and more into the greed area.. actually a whole lot..

So basically its like pirate bay, there working on a way around this. I wish em good luck. And this is what will happen, we all know it. Methods of getting around this will pop up. Or people will just finally say were tired of it... i.e. go to other options if there are any. Drop there ISP or something.

One more thing, seems a few people were complaining about actually using torrents for things not considered "illegal" and getting throttled.. You can thank that to our public school systems for that mentality. That's how it was in the school system I attended. One kid do something wrong.. Everyone else get punished to. I admit its a BS way of doing things.

What I don't understand why companies do not like the free Advertising they receive (Ie. YouTube and "copyright" material being taken down)..but in general I have found tons of video, audio, I would of never paid attention to if not for.. File-sharing.. p2p and Bit-torrent. And it has indeed led to a lot purchases..and it has also helped me to avoid a lot of bad purchases.. But if I do not have the cash to purchase said items. I may in the future. Chances are likely. But on the other hand if I don't have the cash now.. I'm not going to suddenly have the cash to buy these items because there not available on-line.... A lot of media content in general is older, and you can't find it at the stores(Thank goodness for Amazon.com). And it's definitely not feasible for said company that owns the rights, to try and reprint.. just because a select few want it.

And just moving on, I think a few people made a good point about encryption of data, it really is like the postal service in that sense. The envelope anyways.. You don't post said information for some sort of safety.

Anyways, this is just my Humble Opinion..

As the old saying goes.. "People only walk on you if you let em"

The internet spread a lot more quickly after the US gov handed it off to the private sector. But, I think it needs some regulation, because monopolies form in a regulatory vacuum.

The problem is lack of transparency. Comcast has a right to sell whatever service they like, but they shouldn't be able to mislead people to thinking they are buying something else. Competitive forces will force companies to be what customers most want them to be, the problem is when they pretend to be what customers want but do something else to save money.
