Re: Customer Service The problem is without net neutrality, when will Sandvine seek out VOIP packets and disrupt them to the point that the voice quality on Vonage is crappy? I've had Vonage for years and provided my HSI is good, it's a quality product. But, one hiccup in my HSI and I don't have a phone. I live with that but consumer HSI doesn't come with guarantees. You have to take what you get.
I was searching for a good analogy and in 30 seconds the best I can dream up is Vonage is like Federal Express or UPS paying airline passengers to take their packages as carry-on luggage. At first all carriers ignore the practice and allow it. Then the airlines decide there is money to be made and offer a competing service but at a higher cost. After a while they get tired of competing and eliminate carry-on luggage forcing passengers to check the packages. Now they purposely delay, misroute, lose and/or damage the package in an effort to end the competition. Since FedEx and UPS don't have a fleet or any real assets to ship packages, game over.
It sort of works the same way for Vonage. They really are at the mercy of YOUR Internet connection and how hard YOU are willing to fight for a quality, equally prioritized pipe.
I hope they survive but I've been thinking of hedging my bets and accepting the triple play from my cable company. It costs more with less features but I'd rather not have my phone number locked up in a class action suit when Vonage folds. We've had this number for years and it would suck to notify everyone of a new number. Plus the number is easy to remember. The last four digits are 9696 |
