Welcome to the Terror Era

So a CSR that doesn't like me can have me arrested on a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 15 years of ass pounding with just his word against mine, no proof?

I should have moved to Canada a long time ago...

There comes a point in your life when you get tired of fixing everything and wiping everyone's ass. But it’s not giving up. It’s realizing that you don’t need certain people and the bullshit and drama they bring to your life.

If the man is acquitted can we then have the ISP charged with customer terrorism?

You and me too. This place called land of the free is just getting too police statesy for my liking. Go watch the movie "Scent of a Woman". We have raised a bunch of snitches.

From the NBC transcript:

"they recorded the conversation, let our deputies listen where he was making specific threats."

.....for the second or third redirect. Apparently people of a certain political persuasion some people only read what they want to read. Must be the "guberment's" (read: Bush) fault, this guy couldn't have possibly called in a bomb threat. The CSR is involved in a large conspiracy to get customers arrested and thrown in jail.

I wonder what people think it means when you call and it says "this conversation may be recorded.....". I guess they think they're kidding.

What?

When did politics rear its ugly head? Oh, that's right - in your post.

I'm so liberal it would make your teeth ache, and I think this deserves trial, and whatever sentence is handed down in case of a verdict of Guilty. I'd feel the same way if someone threatened a Young Republican's meeting, a Gay Rights meeting, a Weather Underground meeting or a KKK meeting.

Threats of violence can no longer be taken lightly.

In fact, in my opinion, I think the 'Hammer Granny' should have been prosecuted. To me, that was every bit as terroristic as this, except she actually DID something, instead of just threatening. Of course, her ears were much smaller and she was just a 'cute granny-type lady', so she walked.

Justice and The Law are supposed to apply to everyone equally. You remember, tnat old 'Equality Under the Law' thing? It ain't just Perry Mason's gig - it's supposed to still apply.

Wasn't that Comcast's (or whatever ISP) call to make? Sounds like they wagered that jailing her might look bad, and that the PR for letting off a peeved granny was a better business image.

Personally, had it been my business, I would press full charges.

Re: Welcome to the Terror Era

MY APOLOGIES TO ALL, when I read the OP, I didn't see the second link to the - what were they, the journalists notes? - (maybe it was added later, or maybe I am just blind).

I DID however read THIS ARTICLE that was linked to, and nowhere in said article did it mention that there was a recording of the call. You would think that if indeed there WAS a recording of the call, that it would be such a major detail in the case that it would have been included in the article.

[sarcasm]Just further instills my faith in the media [/sarcasm].

I agree with everything you said, especially

I know if I had done that, they would have locked my ass up and thrown away the key, and Comcast would have issued a self-pitying press statement crying "Please pity our poor CSRs, they have to endure so much torture." But since granny does it, she gets a slap on the wrist.

Unfortunately, however, I think that what you have stated above is no longer true do to the Patriot Act. Now police agencies nationwide are allowed to discriminately profile ALL suspects for ALL crimes, and let those that "don't pose a threat" go, and unreasonably arrest and prosecute those that do.

Do I agree with any of this? Hell no. This is SUPPOSED to be the land of the free. We are SUPPOSED to have a constitution. But is it the reality? It looks like it to me. I guess it all depends on your point of view.

I love my country, but Canada looks better all the time.
