evilpeppardAlways Fight For FreedomPremium join:2003-08-20 Aurora, CO | Qwest residential voice mail notifications via email? I have recently switched back from Comcast to Qwest. We had Comcast's triple play deal and it was ok, just expensive.
One thing I have to say I really liked with Comcast was their Digital Voice Center I could access online. Here I could see all the calls made from our house, received to the house, plus any voice mails we had. I could also listen to voice mails via my web browser and it could be setup to email me when we had a new voice mail.
Does anyone know if Qwest is working on something like this at all? Thanks in advance for any feedback. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..." »www.skullform.com |

Are you using a VOIP provider for you telephone service (which might imply that you have a "dry" DSL connection, i.e. no POTS telephone service on the same line)?
I believe that Qwest might offer a VOIP service, but most telephone companies don't offer a very competitive service (since they would be competing with themselves). There are a variety of VOIP providers that you could use instead of POTS telephone service. Perhaps one of them might offer the features you are looking for. |

Thanks.
I am using Qwest over POTS, not VOIP. I was using Comcast's phone service, which was not over POTS, it was over their cable. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..." »www.skullform.com |

RockyBBPremium join:2005-01-31 Steamboat Springs, CO | if you kept the Comcast high speed internet, you might trade out your Qwest POTS for a 3rd party VOIP provider like Packet 8 or Vonage. You'll get the features back, and have a lower monthly cost. -- "Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee to solicit and support former SunRocket customers." |

You'll get the features back, and have a lower monthly cost. I am getting Qwest 7Mb "price for life" DSL @ 36.99, free modem, plus $29.99 phone service with 3 months free.
In the end, it would cost me $98/mo for Comcast Internet and Phone ($55 + $43). Qwest (in the end) will cost me $67 ($37 + $30. Neither of these costs include what I am saving in cable TV costs by staying with DTV.
I will say this...if Qwest hadn't laid fiber earlier this year in our area and offered the 7Mb, I would not have switched. I wouldn't pay Qwest $36.99 for only 1.5Mb Internet. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..." »www.skullform.com |

RockyBBPremium join:2005-01-31 Steamboat Springs, CO | once you get your first Qwest invoice which would include the battering ram of taxes, surcharges and fees not included in the $29.99 price you might see if Qwest would allow you to covert to standalone DSL and take your voice on a VOIP service .... -- "Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee to solicit and support former SunRocket customers." |

They did tell me there is an additional $6.95 federal tax they can do nothing about on top of the $29.99. I'll see how the bill pans out and go from there.

fiberguyMy views are my own.Premium join:2005-05-20 kudos:3 | reply to evilpeppard In your comparison between Qwest and Comcast, you failed to mention that Comcast provides you the unlimited long distance service where that 30.00 phone service is for dial tone and a couple of features. So, the comparison is a little skewed.
Also, to answer another post above, if you convert a Qwest DSL line to a dry-loop, naked line, or stand alone line (what ever people want to call it) then you pay full rate for DSL. Right now, my stand alone DSL service, with 5 static IP addresses, is $68 a month for the 1.5/896 service. Subtract $15 for the IPs.
Hardly not worth the price, but I run servers and the DSL is PERFECT for what I want it for - therefore, I find Qwest a great value no matter what. Not to mention, in my opinion, Qwest blows all the other DSL providers out of the water when it comes to their hands off policy on your DSL service use. -- "Complaining is the least path of resistance for the self-serving, the lazy, and Im told its a womans prerogative..." |

So, the comparison is a little skewed. You are right. Comcast does include "free" LD. I guess I didn't mention it because I could care less about the free long distance. My wife and I both have cell phones that provide excellent reception and we use those for almost all our calls, including LD. LD is included in our cell package, so there is no extra cost.
With Comcast, I cannot remove the LD, like I can with Qwest, so I am forced to pay the full $43, whereas with Qwest, I can choose to have no LD service, reducing the service line costs. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..." »www.skullform.com |

See here for the discussion from when the policy change came out: » Qwest Excessive Use Policy (EUP) I too have heard no complaints, and when I talk to Qwest on the phone and specifically said "I have my own server at home, will that be a problem", the Customer Service Rep's answer was "it is your link, you can do what you like with it". That kind of response makes me feel good, especially since I know I will not be abusing it, i.e. running spambots, etc.
Asked that to Comcast and they said "you cannot run servers on Residential Service". It has been a few years since I asked Comcast this question, but I'm presuming they still feel this same way. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..." »www.skullform.com |
