I just got the free desktop a few days ago. After 5 weeks waiting for it I called Telus and 2 days later it was shipped. Shipping took 7 days. The 80gb hard disk is loaded with tons of Trial offers from MS, Corel, Symantec, AOL etc etc.. Takes up about 35GB. The computer is unusable with the Basic 512 ram it comes with - unless you only want to run a basic editor and type very slowly . Waiting for it to start up etc. while setting up and deleting unwanted offers is painfully slow.
I have ordered extra ram ( not from Telus/Lenova as its too expensive from them). It will probably speed up one I get the extra ram installed. It only shows 448mb ram but the chip is 512 so possibly 64mb is used for the onboard graphics. There are no cards everything is on the motherboard and all the card slots are empty. There are also 2 unused SATA connections. There is no floppy drive installed, just the HD and a DVD/CD reader/CD writer. Installed on the network with no problems and once we have the extra ram, printer and DVD writer installed I am hoping it will be a second PC for anyone else in the house to use. |

| reply to TheMG Greetings, all. New member, here. Obviously a lot of knowledge that I hope to benefit from. Unfortunately I won't be able to contribute to said knowledge because I'm as thick as a brick when it comes things techy.
But to my point ... About 2 years ago, I did sign a three contract in order to get a laptop for my daughter. I recently contacted Telus about switching to from my present "High Speed Enhanced" to "High Speed Extreme" and was told it would cost me $480.00 to cancel my existing plan. This seems odd, as typically when you upgrade to a better service, there's no charge as long as you commit to another long term contract.
Has anyone else experienced this?
All the best..
