[ fiber tech] Question about GPONFrom what I've been reading it seems that Verizon is now installing GPON throughout their FiOS territories. Does this mean that areas where FiOS was installed within the last year (for me it was about 3 months ago that Verizon started to sell in this area) that GPON is already installed? Is there any way to know what technology is being used in your local area? |

As far as I know, Verizon is not using GPON ONTs anywhere yet.
However, from what I understand, the installation of GPON equipment at the CO allows Verizon to support much higher upstream throughput with existing BPON ONTs.
I would guess that any market with 20/20 service now has its COs upgraded for GPON. |

Ken, GPON is available in a few CO's today. There are working customers on GPON, not just test ONT's.
20/20 is currently working on the BPON platform - it is not limited to GPON. My 50/20 FiOS ONT's are on BPON in 2 different CO's in NY. |

If Verizon has been upgrading to GPON, what sense does it make to install BPON ONTs in new build-out areas? Is there a way to identify a GPON ONT, so that I can tell which technology is being used? |
