Re: When Does It Start? Will Tonights Game be Available? Personally, I'm glad the cable companies are refusing. As a non sports fan, our bill tends too go higher when these things are added. As far as I'm concerned, all Sports networks should come in a bundled for pay service, alla the 12 HBO's or Stars... |

Though I am a football fan, I usually just watch my local team which has every game on regular TV. I will occasionally watch a big game like Colts/Patriots. But I don't want my cable bill increased just because the NFL Network won't do deals to put their network on Sports tiers and insist it be added to the basic tier at a high price. -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page

 | reply to TurtleFan Totally. I'd almost be willing to pay more to keep the NFL *off* of my program choices.
I prefer football that's still being played as a sport instead of a business, thank you. |

Even high schools treat their teams as revenue generators. -- What's certain about Darwinism is that it would take less time for (1) a single-celled organism to evolve into a human being through mutation and natural selection than for (2) Darwinists to admit they have no proof of (1) - Ann Coulter |

 | D-II and D-III actually. Plus, they actually have playoffs instead of that sucko BCS. |

 | reply to DotMac4 I love that last one (2 thumbs up)... but isn't that already covered in the "cost of doing business" category? |

I also think it's really silly to waste HD bandwidth on something that just doesn't need it. Seriously, do you need to count the blades of grass on the field?? |

That's BS. They will raise rates anyways. The NLF wants 70 cents charter wants to charge me $5. Tell me where is the fairness in that? Tell me who is greedy.
Charter just annouced prices hikes because they added ESPNU and NHL Network( their own words ) even though these are only avilable to those on the Sports Tier. So how does that mesh with your "Only offer it on the sports tier so non-sports fans don't get charged" theory? |

 | reply to sporkme Well, whether you buy into it or not, where do you think all of those *billions* of dollars come from to pay those outrageous pro athlete salaries? The owners & leagues charge billions for TV rights -> the manufacturers & advertisers & whoever else pay for placing their ads on CBS/NBC/ABC/TNT/et al -> and we, the consumer, whether we pay for channels or not, whether we watch the games or not, we're paying 2, 3, and more times as much as some product would otherwise cost for almost *everything* that we buy so that every manufacturer of any product can recover their costs for advertising. There isn't one pro athlete alive, now or ever, who's worth those million dollar "salaries". If they had to earn their money solely from the revenues of only those willing to pay to watch them play, then they wouldn't even "earn" 6 figures. We're all subsidizing them anyway, so grin and bear it. |
