[POLL] Should cable be forced to carry NFL Network ?

If the NFL had its way, cable companies would be forced to carry the NFL Network on Basic or Basic/Digital tiers and be forced to charge all users whether they wanted it or not.

Poll
Should cable be FORCED to carry the NFL Network on the basic tiers

As someone else posted earlier, the problem I have with organized sports is the fact it's just money revenue now. That, and these business are so controlling on where there stuff gets posted, how, when, etc...it's a fricken' sport for peats sake, have fun with it .

I heard something earlier that one of the Yankees was renegotiating his contract for $48 million, or some ridiculous price like that.. With all these endorsement deals, there should be a salary cap on players. No more than $3 million a year....more than enough for anyone too live off of.

It'd be interesting too see how much the price would drop on these channels if that where the case..

I do, however, remember watching a lower ranked football game (I think it was called XFL) that was rather fun too watch on NBC. Moved a bit quicker, too..

Please. "forced" haha. MLB is "forcing" Charter to carry MLB Channel on basic tiers otherwise they can't offer MLB EXtra Innings. Appearantly Charter doesn't mind charging non-sports fans for that channel.

Fact is the NFL will eventually offer NFL Sunday Ticket to cable companies that also carry NFL Network and see how fast these cable companies start showing NFL Network on basic tiers regargless of who it is "forced" upon. Hypocrisy at it's finiest.

Yes forced. Perhaps you missed the part where the NFL is trying to get the politicians to force Comcast to carry the NFL Network on basic tiers.

That's what this country needs to make things right. A society with communist and socialist roots. When people say things like "athletes shouldn't make so much", I believe they make those statements out of envy and jealousy. Those folks either have a lot of money or have no shot of EARNING really good money in their life. If athletes had their salary cut, do you think costs would go down? If you do you are naive. It'll just transfer from the millionaire players to the billionaire owners.

The players deserve the money because they are the ones putting on the show. Should actors get paid less because you feel they make too much? No one complains about their pay. The truth is a FEW athletes make tens of millions or have endorsement contracts. Most athletes have 1-3 careers and get real jobs after pro sports, so they should take as much as they can get. If you had any athletic ability, you would too.

Goods and services are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

True.. but in this case I wasn't talking about the regular guys, just the hadnfull that make $20,000,000 or so. I know nothing about the business of baseball, but it would be interesting too see how it all breaks down and what goes toward paying that much amount of money....

I can always dream of making the pro bowling circuit and get a $1,000,000 a check myself

Perhaps you missed the part where ALL these same companies are perfectly willing to let MLB "force" them to carry MLB Channel on basic tiers so they can still offer Extra Innings. Now if it's wrong for non-sports fans to subsidiize football how is some ok to subsidize baseball? Until these companies can explain their hypocrisy they can get of their righteous high horse.

As I said if the NFL came out TODAY and said "Ok carry us on basic tier and you can offer Sunday Ticket" these same companies would say OK and have ZERO issue with having the non-sports fan subsidize NFL Network. Anyone that believes otherwise is an idiot.

The fact is these companies are mad that the NFL extended thier deal with DirectTV 2 years ago until 2011. This is their way of paying the NFL back. The whole "It's not fair to make non-fans pay 70 cents a month" line is BS. These companies want Sunday Ticket. They know that this is a way to make sure the NFL doesn't negotiate another exclusive deal with DirectTV again. It's a game of chicken. The cable companies are betting that there won't be a big enough outcry from NFL fans before 2011 to force them into accpeting a deal before the NFL says they can have Sunday Ticket. The NFL is betting there will be. Who blinks first?

Fact is if the NFL came back and said "Ok you can NFL Network on a sports tier" those caable companies would be f*cked. Their bluff would have been called. They couldn't refuse on the basis of "Only sports fan should pay" because they would be. Especially when they said they would add it if they could put it on a sports tier. But if they do that they have almost ZERO negotiating power when it comes to getting Sunday Ticket at that point.
