Well, whether you buy into it or not, where do you think all of those *billions* of dollars come from to pay those outrageous pro athlete salaries? The owners & leagues charge billions for TV rights -> the manufacturers & advertisers & whoever else pay for placing their ads on CBS/NBC/ABC/TNT/et al -> and we, the consumer, whether we pay for channels or not, whether we watch the games or not, we're paying 2, 3, and more times as much as some product would otherwise cost for almost *everything* that we buy so that every manufacturer of any product can recover their costs for advertising. There isn't one pro athlete alive, now or ever, who's worth those million dollar "salaries". If they had to earn their money solely from the revenues of only those willing to pay to watch them play, then they wouldn't even "earn" 6 figures. We're all subsidizing them anyway, so grin and bear it.  |
