Re: NEW ~ FiOS INTERNET PREMIUM SPEED PACKAGES

If you can actually give me a reason why it costs more to deliver bandwidth to Penns Grove, NJ than to New Castle, DE across the river, I'll believe you. But just saying it costs more doesn't actually make it true. Otherwise it's nothing more than price gouging because my market it less competitive.

*shrug* Don't upgrade then. I for one am salivating in preparation for the upstream increase, assuming I can get it for not much more than what I pay now for 15/2 business. I don't care what NY has, because guess what? I don't live in NY.

Please name one other company right now that keeps offering more speeds so often across the USA...
Who said anything about that? We're talking about Verizon charging me the same for less service than my neighbor just because they can.

fiosguys,

Any word on when the 15/2 areas get upped to 20/5? Just trying to figure out what the decision is here before signing any contracts. Thanks for the posts!

Your "neighbor", that happens to be in a more densely populated and better connected location...

Not until sometime in 2008.

Many customers in VA already have 30/5 for $55/mo so for them this may not be the greatest deal. You pay $10/mo more for half the downstream and 3x the upstream.

Just be aware that you won't see that full 15Mbps upstream outside of your region. When transferring files across the country (east coast to west), you'll rarely see more than 5Mbps.

Because datacenters and connectivity between peering points is cheaper in those areas. What do you think is cheaper, running multiple 100s of miles of fiber, or <10 miles?

Really? I had no idea all of NJ was more densely populated than all of DE.

If that's the case why isn't my neighborhood in Wilmington getting charged less than they are charging people in Angola in southern DE? We're much more densely populated, surely we should be charged less or get more speed, right?

OMG... 15Mb symmetrical Internet for $65/mo is "price gouging"?? That's the most outrageous statement ever.

Exactly. Unfortunately this thread has been polluted with the arguments over the 15/15 vs. 20/20 thing, which I myself am guilty of being dragged into.

Let's keep it on topic here. Thanks again for posting the heads up DoRight See Profile!

New Jersey has the highest population density in the U.S. at 1,138 people per square mile. New York state is #6 at 402 (26403 for NYC area) and Delaware is #7 at 401 people per square mile.

They're charging me more than my neighbor because my state is less competitive. What do you call it?

I never said $65 dollars for 15/15 isn't awesome. It's just not as awesome as my neighbors across the river who are getting 5/5 more for the same price..

There is a special forum for you. Go post there. I'm sure you'll get tons of sympathy from the people who have Cable, DSL or Dial-up.

How about free-market economics?

Besides... no one is stopping you from moving to NY to get 20/20.

But then he'd *gasp* have to pay like 4x the cost of living!

No where did I say they shouldn't be allowed to charge me the same for less service. I'm just saying it's not fair when there is no real reason for it.

Wow... it's an awesome price but it's price gouging at the same time. This just gets more interesting by the minute.
