Chlen chooses Johnny, chooses Yock to send it to, and Yock does not see that it is Johnny's role (i.e. he sees the role but not that it belongs to Johnny)? That's how I think it worked... because Chlen decided to reveal that it was Johnny's role that he sent to Yock.

So - my conclusion is that if Chlen had chosen Dan, then Yock would have been told that he had a night poison, but not that it was Dan's. Then Chlen could reveal in the thread that it was Dan's role that was sent to Yock, Yock could reveal that it was Player X that he targeted, and when Player X dies of poisoning, Dan would be outed as Scum.

That's how I interpreted it as well. Perhaps there wasn't anything wrong with the execution of the role at all then, I just fell victim to unfulfilled expectations.
